A teenage boy has died after being pulled from the water at a public lake east of Perth. Emergency services were called to Lake Leschenaultia in Childow at about two o'clock this afternoon with the boy unable to be saved.

00:00Usually a destination for family outings and water sports, Lake Leshenaltia, about 50 kilometres
00:09east of Perth, now the scene of a tragedy. Police confirming a 17-year-old boy had drowned.
00:17His body pulled from the water this afternoon. Swimmers recounting the moments they heard
00:22screams for help.
00:23We ran, we dropped everything and ran. Everyone was just running and tried to find this boy.
00:30They said he went under, he went under.
00:32Several police, ambulance and fire and rescue vehicles rushed to the lake after receiving
00:37reports a swimmer was in distress. In the meantime, witnesses frantically taking turns
00:43to dive underwater, with some locals bringing scuba gear to help.
00:48We dove so far, it was so dark. We got the boats out, moved the pontoon, all until the
00:56police and ambulance and everyone came. But despite their best efforts, the rescue was
01:00unsuccessful. Everyone was shaken up, everyone was in tears in the end because we couldn't
01:06find him. Police say the death isn't being treated as suspicious and a report will be
01:10prepared for the coroner.
