00:01Jane Dodds AM.
00:02Good afternoon, Trefnydd.
00:03I'd like to call for a statement, if I may, from the Cabinet Member for Transport and
00:10North Wales.
00:11It's with regards to flooding in Llanwrtyd Wells.
00:15I visited at the weekend for a public meeting to discuss the devastating impact of a recent
00:21flood, which is actually coming off the main road, the trunk road, in the town.
00:28Just to give a bit of context, there's a broken culvert, broken pipes throughout the
00:31village causing significant damage, and on the night of a flood, 1 January, the storm
00:38drains were overflowing, and I'm afraid households were witnessing sinkholes opening up in their
00:45gardens.
00:46In one sad situation, I visited a family with a 12-foot sinkhole in their back garden.
00:55It got filled with water, and the 80-year-old little girl let the family dog out, forgetting
01:01that the sinkhole was full of water, and, sadly, their dog drowned.
01:05This is a realĂłobviously, a very sad story, but the town actually feels abandoned.
01:12Nobody has been to see them.
01:14I'm liaising with the trunk roads agency, but I wondered if you could also bring pressure,
01:19in order for those people to have some reassurance that something is being done.
01:24Janet Finch-Saunders AM, Leader of the Opposition, Llanwrtyd Cymru and Llanwrtyd Cymru AM Thank you very much indeed, Jane Dodds.
01:28Can we think of those who have been affected, obviously, in terms of your area, Llanwrtyd
01:37Cymru and Llanwrtyd Cymru, the impact of those recent floods you brought to life, the impact
01:42on that town is very clear, and we think of the families who have been affected, and particularly
01:50the story of the sad loss of that family pet as a result of the sinkhole.
01:55Now, I understand there are several issues ongoing in Llanwrtyd Wells, following on from
02:01the storms and local land ownership issues, so I hope you can relay this to your constituents
02:07that we are aware of these issues, we are mindful of Llanwrtyd Wells and the impact
02:13of the floods.
02:14So, the Welsh Government's strategic road network division intend to meet with local
02:18residents next week to discuss options to resolve some of the issues, and the strategic
02:24road network division, alongside their agents, are investigating the cause of the opened-up
02:29carriageway on A483 and intend to carry out necessary repairs at the earliest opportunity.
02:36But I've also asked if our officials could meet with you, Jane, next week to go through
02:44these issues.
02:45Thank you very much.
