00:00Staff from the Northern Beaches Council are scouring the shorelines of nine of their beaches
00:07where hundreds of white and grey balls about the size of marbles washed up on their coastline
00:11earlier this morning.
00:12Since then, the council has shut all nine of those beaches until the clean-up is finished.
00:17They include really popular beaches like Manly, North and South Curl Curl and DY beaches.
00:23The New South Wales Environment Protection Authority says it's still too early to say
00:27exactly what these balls are made up of and where they came from.
00:31But it did say that they're quite similar to those mysterious black balls that washed
00:35up on Sydney's eastern suburbs beaches a couple of months ago.
00:39They also said they look similar to balls that turned up on Bombo Beach near Kayama
00:43further south.
00:45Sydney Water has put out a statement which says that nearby sewage treatment plants have
00:49had no issues with their operations recently and that Sydney Water is working with the
00:54to try and work out exactly where these balls today have come from.
