00:00You only come across an artist like Luther Vandross once in a lifetime.
00:08I just decided to focus my entire life into music. He was a boss from the
00:13beginning. He had a vision of how he wanted it to go down and that's the way it went down.
00:18I used to sing for Roberta Flack, Bette Midler, David Bowie. David, new talent. He
00:23whispered to me, I love this guy and I'm like, listen, that's a lot. Luther said, I have a
00:28sound in my head, I got to get it out. So we went in the studio, says okay, it goes
00:32boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. I said, this is a quirky little bass line.
00:49It was the most exciting time in the world. My head, my heart, everything was
00:55immersed in this business. His life had some extremely joyful moments. Four
01:01albums and all of them platinum. There's some really difficult moments. He felt
01:07strongly he was being treated in a racist way by the executives. He would
01:13say, I feel like a trick has been played on me. God has given me everything I ask
01:17for except one person who loves me. People make a big deal out of your
01:23weight. Does it bother you? Yeah, it's bothersome right now, now that you're
01:27asking me. I keep getting the feeling that the best part of my career is still
01:32ahead of me. Mr. Luther Bandrock. If we were to be able to talk to Luther as fans, we'd
01:39really say, we just love you.
