00:00The Isle of Sand, a mysterious terrestrial mass, appeared on the maps of our planet for nearly 200 years before it became volatilized.
00:09Located in the South Pacific, between Australia and New Caledonia,
00:13this ghost island was first reported by 18th century explorers,
00:18and was subsequently regularly recorded on maps and even on scientific evidence.
00:23But when in 2012 a ship went on a search using these supposed coordinates,
00:28they only found a vast desert water.
00:30Its crew even measured the depth of the ocean at this place,
00:33and reported that with a minimum of 1,220 meters,
00:36there was no chance that a large piece of land could be hidden under the water.
00:40To make things even stranger, when we look at the exact coordinates of the island on Google Earth,
00:46these weak contours, which draw a long and thin land, are always clearly visible,
00:52without any terrestrial mass being present in reality.
00:56Some have made probable map errors,
00:59but the mystery of this island, which has managed to deceive the world for centuries, is still not solved to this day.
01:05Speaking of mysterious islands, let us now plunge into the enigma of Hashima.
01:09Located off Nagasaki, in Japan,
01:12this small island used to be a very active coal mining site,
01:16where workers and families lived.
01:18But when, in the 1970s, the demand for coal declined,
01:22the island was abandoned,
01:24its inhabitants leaving behind a disturbing ghost town.
01:28Today, Hashima is a sinister and silent place,
01:31with concrete buildings collapsing,
01:33and overgrown vegetation.
01:35If you are brave enough, you can do a virtual tour using Google Earth.
01:40But there are some places that digital maps do not allow you to observe well,
01:45like the Warde Islands, in Australia.
01:47If you look for the coordinates of these islands,
01:50you will see that there are many shadow areas near the coast.
01:54This has led to all kinds of speculation on the Internet.
01:57People wondered what could be hiding under the surface.
02:01Is it a simple technical problem,
02:03or could it be that nature is something unusual in these places?
02:07We still do not have a concrete answer regarding these strange shadows.
02:11But it is worth mentioning that this region is part of a protected natural zone.
02:16It is home to the Australian Sea Lion,
02:19and New Zealand's furry otter.
02:21These shadow areas could therefore be part of a plan to preserve the fauna,
02:26and, more generally, the environment of this region.
02:29Let's stay on the subject of scary islands and abandoned places.
02:33If you visit Rio de Janeiro one day,
02:35you may notice something disturbing.
02:38Sinister Santa Claus,
02:39damaged sugar cane canes,
02:41and rusty slides surrounded by palm trees and lush vegetation.
02:46This is Alba Noel,
02:47an abandoned and scary theme park.
02:51The creator of this park had big dreams,
02:54thinking it would become a huge and eclectic attraction,
02:58with different themed areas.
03:00Its surface corresponds to that of 460 football fields.
03:04The work began in 2000,
03:07but the place closed a few years later,
03:09after the tragic death of its creator in a car accident,
03:12just a few meters from the entrance of the park.
03:15Today, the attractions are slowly rotting away.
03:19We would really believe ourselves in a science fiction movie.
03:22But these multicolored rings are indeed on Earth,
03:25in Yellowstone National Park, to be exact.
03:29With a diameter of 113 meters,
03:31it is the largest hot spring in the United States
03:34and the third largest in the world.
03:36All these colors come from various types of bacteria,
03:39which form a real thermographic filter.
03:42Each type of bacteria develops at different temperatures,
03:46and their colors reflect the levels of heat
03:48in the different parts of the spring.
03:50Our next step is Italy,
03:52where the Villa di Vecchi is located,
03:54also known as the Red House,
03:57or the Phantom Manor.
03:58For each Phantom Manor,
04:00there is an urban legend.
04:02Although none of what we are going to say is confirmed,
04:05the story is still quite interesting,
04:08and downright bizarre.
04:10Built in the middle of the 19th century
04:12by the Count Felix de Vecchi,
04:14this once grandiose summer residence
04:16has one day become the theater of a tragedy.
04:19The Count's wife died in mysterious circumstances,
04:23and his daughter disappeared, never to be seen again.
04:26Devastated,
04:27the Count would have spent the rest of his life
04:29looking for answers.
04:31Over the years,
04:32the manor fell into ruin,
04:34and legends have fed its reputation of haunted places.
04:37Some say they heard strange noises,
04:40or saw ghostly silhouettes,
04:42while others speak of singular rituals
04:45that took place there.
04:47Although ravaged and invaded by vegetation,
04:50the Villa di Vecchi remains popular
04:52with the curious that strange stories intrigue.
04:55After exploring these mysterious deserted buildings,
04:58let's go to a place where the forces of nature
05:01have left a considerable mark,
05:03the Barringer crater in Arizona.
05:06This site was formed in an instant,
05:08about 50,000 years ago,
05:10when a big iron and nickel meteorite hit the earth.
05:14Measuring a little less than 1,200 meters in diameter
05:17and 170 meters deep,
05:19this crater is one of the best-preserved impact sites in the world.
05:23When you stand on board,
05:25you can almost imagine the incredible force of the collision
05:28that destroyed everything around it.
05:31Today, the Barringer crater is a fascinating geological site
05:34that attracts many scientists and visitors.
05:37Seen on Google Earth,
05:39this region of Niger seems frightening.
05:42Species of glass domes scatter the landscape there,
05:45as if it were an interplanetary colony.
05:48In reality, it is an illusion.
05:51These domes are actually small semicircular pits
05:55belonging to the Just Dig It project.
05:58They are called water slabs, or earth smiles,
06:02and they are dug to capture rainwater
06:04and restore dry and impoverished lands.
06:07It is a simple but brilliant method
06:10that allows to bring life back to areas affected by desertification.
06:14By retaining the water,
06:15these structures allow the vegetation to grow back,
06:18to refresh the soil,
06:20and to revive the ecosystems.
06:22You have probably heard of the famous Nazca lines in Peru, right?
06:27These are huge ancient geoglyphs,
06:30engraved in the desert,
06:31and representing spiders, monkeys, and hummingbirds.
06:35Recently, a similar figure appeared and went around the Internet.
06:39This new figure, located at the top of a mountain,
06:42looks a lot like a wild boar.
06:45Although it is super cool to find a new potential geoglyph,
06:49the lack of concrete information
06:51and the unclear edges suggest
06:53that it could simply be a natural formation.
06:56This is no less intriguing.
06:58But if you go south, to Chile,
07:01you will find a real geoglyph.
07:04It is the Atacama giant,
07:06which measures about 119 meters.
07:08This funny-looking drawing
07:10would represent a spiritual figure, or a god.
07:13We are not sure of its meaning,
07:16but experts think that this drawing could have been used as an astronomical calendar.
07:21The dots located on the top and sides of the head
07:24indicate the seasons according to their alignment with the Moon.
07:28By exploring Google Earth,
07:30you may also discover mysterious remains,
07:33such as the MV Plassey in Ireland.
07:36This ship had a tragic fate in 1960
07:39when a strong storm and violent winds
07:42made it fall to Phoenice Rock
07:44with a hole in the bottom of its hull.
07:46The water began to swell from below.
07:49After shouting and running in all directions,
07:52the crew managed to evacuate the ship.
07:55Today, its wreck is still in Phoenix Rock.
07:58It is a very popular attraction today.
08:01You can still see its hull disintegrating over time,
08:04which makes the scene even more appealing.
08:08Here is an interesting subject in relation to the Titanic.
08:12It is true that this ship is 3,960 meters deep,
08:16so it is not possible to see it with satellite cameras.
08:21But if you type these coordinates in Google Earth,
08:24you will find the place where this famous shipwreck took place.
08:28And it's not that scary.
08:30We only see a large area of blue water.
08:33But it is still interesting to see
08:35how far the ship was from everything
08:37on this tragic night that the world has never forgotten.
