00:00As we sit here right now, George and listen, we still have miles and miles to go before we get to the finish line. Everybody's just about in that midway point in terms of games played 4041 42. Everybody's kind of just about there. So we got a half a season still to go. But when you look at the two wildcards today, which is Boston and Columbus in the Eastern Conference, 45 and 44 points, respectively. Pittsburgh 44, Ottawa 41, Montreal 41, Detroit 41.
00:30Rangers 40, Islanders 39, Philly 39. So that means you have all those teams within five, six points of each other. And even Buffalo's only 37. And they lost 13 games in a row. And they probably consider themselves still in the mix. Only seven points back to so it's like that some of these teams are gonna get in George and I was looking at from the Rangers perspective. They have the most quote unquote pedigree and talent. They went to the Eastern Conference finals a year ago, they just got just
00:59jerking back last night. And they're still giving you a pretty good number on the Rangers plus 162 to make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference. Do you believe George that they would be one of the two teams that gets their act together and gets through all this muck that's in the middle of the bottom?
01:15Yeah, I think we have to remember the Rangers were the four of a season, a favorite, not only maybe women division, but certainly make the playoffs here, maybe even make some noise as far as going to stay on the cup. This was expected to be a good team. Now, the Rangers are a specialty team. They were last year, sort of this year, they rely on the power play. And that that went away this year, for whatever reason, they weren't scoring power play goals. You have a defense is not good. I wouldn't, I mean, I say it's poor, but it's not good. All right, so it's below average there. So they need help there. And it's just not good. It's not good. It's not good. It's not good. It's not good. It's not good. It's not good. It's not good. It's not good. It's not good. It's not good. It's not good. It's not good. It's not good. It's not
01:45excellent goaltenders. So theoretically, they should be in the playoffs. Yeah. So, to answer your question Mikey, I think they do get in, I think they're a team, sort of like remember Colorado last year they struggled and then made their playoffs. And they're not a team. Let's just say they get a wild card spot. They don't get a top three. You think Toronto was in first place in the Atlantis, we throw the play, and the Rangers round one of the race have gotten their act together, but not but didn't get enough together to finish their top three. I mean, I that's not going to be fun. And I don't listen, I don't think sigma was up playing the Rangers around one either.
02:15So I think they could be that team.
02:17But that being said, they're a mess.
02:19We know they're a mess, right?
02:20They're releasing players.
02:21They're trading players.
02:22They're claiming players.
02:23They're doing everything they can here, and I don't think
02:25they're done.
02:26I think there was another big move coming.
02:27We heard it earlier in the week that the Rangers are after
02:30JT Miller.
02:31We know the Vancouver situation is just as crazy where Miller
02:34or Pedersen has to go.
02:35The Rangers tried to get Miller earlier in the season, straight
02:37up for Zibanejad.
02:38Vancouver said no, and now apparently they're talking.
02:41Oh, the Rangers are trying to talk to JT Miller again, and
02:44I am of the belief that either Miller or Pedersen is going
02:47to get dealt.
02:48I'm of that belief as well, George, as we still have a little
02:52bit of a stones throw away from the trade deadline.
02:54Vancouver is a team that they do like to shake things up.
02:58We have seen that a lot from them in the past.
03:01We saw them a couple years ago trade Horvat to the Islanders.
03:04We know that they do like to mix things around, and it
03:08sounds like those two guys can't be together anymore,
03:11in any way.
03:12The book tells you that the Bruins and Ottawa are going to
03:14be the two teams that get the wild card, plus 106, plus 110.
03:18But Penguins, plus 280. Detroit, who's won five in a row, plus
03:22520. Columbus, who's in one of the spots right now, plus 540.
03:28Flyers, plus 630. Canadians, plus 630.
03:31Those are some pretty big numbers, George.
03:33And I know, you know, you hear those teams.
03:35They don't sound very appealing, but with how this conference
03:41is shaken out, one of those big numbers might be worth
03:44taking a shot at, whether it's Detroit, Columbus, Philly,
03:46or Montreal.
03:48Yeah, they might be, because someone's got to get in, right?
03:50So someone is going to make it out of that group.
03:52At least, I think they are.
03:54I don't believe in Pittsburgh, by the way.
03:56I know they're in their one spot out now, but they play
03:5843 games more than the rest of these teams.
04:00Ottawa, Montreal, Detroit have only played 40.
04:03So we got to keep that in mind here.
04:05They are, theoretically, they're right there with these
04:07teams, a team that I've liked pretty much all season long.
04:10When I say like, by the way, I mean that I thought could
04:12get to the playoffs.
04:13Not do any damage in the playoffs, but I like the Ottawa
04:16Senators.
04:17All right, new ownership last year.
04:18They'll be a little chaotic there.
04:20You get Oldenburg, right?
04:22You trade for Oldenburg.
04:23Nyanis, I know he's hurt, but he'll be back shortly.
04:25I think that helps their offense.
04:26I mean, Stutzel, Brady Kachuk, Josh Norris was sort of coming
04:30into his own now.
04:31Batherson, you got Giroux here.
04:33I think they'll make an addition.
04:34You know, I don't know what's going to be a major addition,
04:36but I think it could be a second line forward is what I expect
04:40coming from that.
04:40Maybe another defenseman here.
04:41Wouldn't it be nice if they had Chikorin, who's had a great
04:43season for the Washington Capitals here.
04:45But I would take a shot at the Ottawa Senators that they sneak
04:48in mainly.
04:48I'm a goaltending guy, Mike.
04:49I do like Oldenburg.
04:51I think once he gets back healthy, they're winning without
04:52him. And once he comes back healthy, stabilize that position,
04:55I think they can make a run and I love those games in hand.
