00:12So, that Srirangam is celebrating Vaigundayakasi, very very important, compared with the other places.
00:19Srimataya Ramanujaaya Navaha. This is Srinivasan, Trimalaya Anantanpallya Srinivasan from Srirangam.
00:25The biggest festival of Srirangam, that is Periyathiranaal, or Thiru Adhyayana Utsavam,
00:30which is happening right now in Srirangam, is a 22-day long festival.
00:34The first 10 days are Pagalpathu, or 10 days. The next 10 days are Raapathu, or 10 nights.
00:41This Utsavam started in Srirangam, which is now followed in all other Sri Vaishnava Dividesams,
00:46including Tirupati, Kanchipuram, and all of them.
00:50This was started by Thirumangai Aalvaar, the last of Aalvaars.
00:55He composed his last Prabandham, called Thirunadun Thaandakam, and presented it in front of Sri Ranganathan.
01:03Sri Ranganathan asked him for any wishes he had. At that time, Thirumangai Aalvaar said,
01:09This Perumal, that is Sri Ranganathan, has to hear Swami Namma Aalvaar's Thiruvayi Muzhi for 10 days in this Adhyayana Utsava Kaalam.
01:18Thirumangai Aalvaar presented this beautiful wish, and Sri Ranganathan approved it.
01:23Swami Namma Aalvaar, who was born in Aalvaar Trinagari, which is in Thoothukudi district,
01:28was brought from Thoothukudi to Srirangam every year before Swami Ramanujacharya's period.
01:34And this Utsavam was happening with Namma Aalvaar from Aalvaar Trinagari or Thoothukudi.
01:40After that, after Swami Ramanujacharya's period, this issue got dissolved and a new Namma Aalvaar was placed in Srirangam itself.
01:51This event, which was started by Thirumangai Aalvaar, was later dropped due to periods.
01:58At that time, Swami Nathamunikal, who is the great Acharya and a Sishya of Swami Namma Aalvaar,
02:04who came much later, restarted this Utsavam with Pagalpathu as well.
02:10In Pagalpathu, along with Thiruvayi Muzhi, Swami Sri Ranganatha hears other Rivya Prabandhams as well.
02:19Thirupallandu, Periya Aalvaar Thirumuzhi, Thirupavai, Naachiyar Thirumuzhi, Perumal Thirumuzhi,
02:24Thiruchandavirutham, Thirumalai, Thirupalliyazhichi, Kanninunsiruthambu and Amalanathipiran,
02:30alongside Thirumangai Aalvaar's Periya Thirumuzhi.
02:33After these 20 days are over, Iyerppa, the rest of the Divya Prabandhams by Aalvaars are sung in that one day.
02:40The 11th day of this festival, called Vaikunta Ekadashi, is the most important day.
02:46On that day, Sri Ranganathan, coming out of his Garbha Graha, enacts as a simple Jeevatma,
02:52who is a Muktaatma, coming out and reaching Sri Vaikuntam.
02:56He crosses Brajanathi, he enters the Paramapada Vasal and enters Thirumamani Mandapam like a samanya Jeevatma.
03:03That is what the context of Sri Paramapada Vasal.
03:08And from then on, Thiruvayimuzhi is sung by Arayars in front of Sri Ranganathan
03:13and the festival goes on as a beautiful event and ends with Namma Aalvaar reaching Sri Ranganathan's Thirupadi or lotus feet.
03:22And that is the context of this Thirudhenu Utsavam, which was started by Thirumangai Aalvaar in Srirangam
03:28and now followed all across the Divya Deshams.
03:32Ekadashis in general are very auspicious in Sri Vaishnava Sampradayam.
03:37Sri Vaishnavas used to keep fasting on Ekadashis.
03:41The most important Ekadashi of them is Sri Vaikunta Ekadashi, that is today.
03:46On this fine day, Sri Ranganathan comes out of this Paramapada Vasal, opening it only once in a year.
03:53And for these ten days, this Paramapada Vasal is kept open for Sri Vaishnavas, for Bhaktas to get over with their karmas and reach his lotus feet in Sri Vaikunta.
