00:00Some farmers are facing problems because their income is low following the decrease in the mill gate price.
00:07According to the United Sugar Producers Federation, this is possibly due to the manipulation of some traders.
00:13But even if the mill gate price is low, it is not felt in their markets.
00:17Live from Talisay, Mendez Occidental, we have first news with Aileen Pedrezo of GMA Regional TV. Aileen.
00:26Dear viewers, sugar planters are now hoping to investigate the problem of the mill gate price so that they can recover their income.
00:40Emma, a farmer, has planted 20 tons of rice in the house of Mercia Negros Occidental.
00:47It was sold for Php 100,000.
00:51But this will reduce the cost of the truck that carries the rice,
00:56the cost of buying rice, and the cost of its workers.
01:00Before, the income was low. Now, it is even lower.
01:04This is due to the decrease in the mill gate price of sugar in the beginning of the milling season in October of the previous year.
01:10That is why there is almost no rice being grown in the rice plantations.
01:14We are very affected. The rice is expensive.
01:18The rice is cheap. We are not able to grow rice.
01:22We are just delivering rice. We are affected.
01:27According to the President of the United Sugar Producers Federation or UNIFED,
01:31since the Php 2,850 mill gate price last year,
01:35the price of sugar has increased from Php 2,400 to Php 2,500.
01:42Due to the decrease in the price, it is now affecting the sugar industry in the province,
01:48especially the small sugarcane planters.
01:51According to UNIFED, the possible reason for this is the manipulation of sugar traders of the price.
01:56The sugar traders are being investigated.
02:10The Sugar Regulatory Administration supports the call of sugar planters in the province.
02:16Despite the decrease in the mill gate price, the price of sugar has not affected the families.
02:22The price of sugar remains at Php 70 per kilo of sugar.
02:25Php 68 per kilo of brown sugar.
02:28Php 70 per kilo of washed sugar.
02:31And Php 72 for refined sugar.
02:35As of now ma'am, we are still waiting for the new price.
02:46Igan, according to some shopkeepers, they are still waiting for the new price to be implemented.
02:52It is not yet sure if it will go down or remain the same. Igan?
02:57Thank you very much Aileen Pedrezo of GMA Regional TV.
