00:00Yeah, and the other thing is that, I mean, the president of Panama, President Mulino,
00:05is described by many analysts as being incredibly pro-American.
00:08I mean, is this really the right way to treat a close ally?
00:12The short answer is no.
00:14I mean, going back to the Carter administration, that gesture meant a great deal in terms of
00:22the United States improving its relationship with its closest neighbours to the South.
00:28Anything would destroy US credibility, you know, in Central and South America than to
00:35send the military back to take control of the canal.
00:40And oh, by the way, this is subject to treaties which have been signed between the United
00:45States and Panama, you know, so to send the military into Panama would be an act of war.
00:53It's not something that a president can do unilaterally.
00:57And so, you know, this is a lot of noise to call attention to, you know, Trump bringing
01:04attention to himself, which is what he loves, of course.
01:07Now, down the road, could this have some leverage in terms of getting greater cooperation by
01:15Panama and other countries, you know, in terms of migration, you know, maybe.
01:20But it's a lot of noise, you know, without necessarily having a practical endgame.
01:27Thank you very much.
