00:00Hi, I'm Ash Warrn, I'm the CEO here at Denizma.
00:14So at Denizma, we develop and manufacture professional driving simulators.
00:19These are machines that simulate the real driving experience.
00:23So our customers include automotive companies and motorsport teams.
00:28So our customers use the simulators in the case of automotive companies in order to virtualize
00:34the development of their products.
00:36And this allows them to test things in the simulator that they would otherwise have to
00:40build prototype cars for.
00:42This saves them a huge amount of money and time so they can get products to market faster.
00:47In the case of motorsport teams, the teams use the driving simulator in order to prepare
00:53for races and to develop the race car to stay ahead of the competition.
00:57So mixed reality and virtual reality can be used in driving simulators to replace otherwise
01:03large and expensive projector and LED wall systems.
01:07So this technology is improving all the time.
01:09We're just at about a tipping point where this is becoming a serious consideration in
01:14high-end professional driving simulators.
01:16It's already used massively in sim racing, for example.
01:20But right now we're getting to the point where head-mounted displays have high enough resolution,
01:26high enough frame rate, and almost light enough so that you can wear them for extended
01:31periods of time and basically take advantage of the other benefits that head-mounted displays
01:37have such as increased immersion because you have true stereoscopic vision where you're
01:43able to sense depth perception because you have a different view from one eye to the
01:47other.
01:48And you can also see parallax, which means, for example, in a racing scenario, you can
01:52look either side of the tire and see where the curb is, which racing drivers find really
01:57important.
01:59So I think we're still probably two or three years away from head-mounted displays being
02:06used widely in preference over projectors and LED walls.
02:11Honestly, I think there will always be a space for all three.
02:14And different use cases, different users have different preferences with regard to whether
02:20or not they favor real high brightness, resolution, frame rate, or comfort.
02:25So in automotive today, there are use cases where head-mounted displays are the only choice.
02:31For example, if you want to evaluate changing the dash quickly, then you can do this in
02:37augmented reality by just changing a CAD model, and then you'll still be able to see your
02:42real hands on the steering wheel, but you can quickly change the interior of the car
02:46as well as what's going on outside.
