00:00Well, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively were no-shows at the Golden Globes over the weekend,
00:05which didn't really surprise anyone, considering what's been going on, that they don't want
00:12to stand in front of cameras and talk to people and have to answer questions about the war
00:17with Justin Baldoni.
00:18But Ryan Reynolds was willing to talk.
00:20Yes, although not to reporters.
00:23He was at the National Board of Review Awards last night in New York City and was introducing
00:29Wicked, which was up for an award.
00:32And yeah, you could say he's talking about Wicked and the stars of Wicked here.
00:37Nope.
00:39This is 100% about what his wife is going through.
00:43Stories about women seem to be held to a different set of standards, and that is to say that
00:48they're often held to the standards women are held to in life.
00:52You must be perfect.
00:53You must hide your strength.
00:55You must shapeshift or placate.
00:59But Donna Langley and Universal, they know where and with whom to place their trust,
01:06and it paid off in this film.
01:07I hate to say this, I just don't understand this.
01:11There may be double standards still, but to say that a woman has to be perfect, it is
01:17just not...
01:18His point is that if a woman isn't perfect, then whatever that imperfection is, is magnified.
01:25He's a strange messenger for this, right?
01:27He's talking about a movie with two incredibly well-regarded women in the lead roles, both
01:33of whom will likely get Academy Award nominations.
01:36He is married to an exceptionally famous, successful actress, who has had, by the way,
01:42a lot of difficulty with a lot of people on set and different roles she's been in, but
01:46nevertheless has come through as one of the most successful people in Hollywood.
01:50It's an interesting message from Ryan Reynolds.
01:53It really is.
01:54Let me say something, Jason, what you just said.
01:57I get most of it.
01:59Ariana Grande has not been a perfect person.
02:03I mean, she's had her share of...
02:07And by the way...
02:08Hold on, correct me if I'm wrong, and it's been a long time since I've seen the play.
02:11It is a reference to part of the storyline of Wicked as well, right?
02:16But they're talking about actresses there.
02:18They're talking about actresses.
02:19And my point is, Ariana Grande, like everybody else, nobody is perfect.
02:25And she's had her things over the years, but she's still able to probably achieve the status
02:32of winning an Academy Award.
02:33But he's not talking about the actresses.
02:34Really?
02:35I'm saying it's a reference to the storyline.
02:36It is.
02:37I'm just going to throw it out there.
02:38It is possible, maybe it wasn't a double entendre.
02:41I think it was.
02:42I think it was.
02:43And that he was very subtly defending his wife.
02:49Not so subtly defending his wife.
