00:00From jarring CGI taking you out of the moment entirely, to kisses that made your heart sink
00:06instead of flutter, there's just no erasing these unfortunate scenes from your mind.
00:11The undeniable Gareth here from WhatCulture Star Wars,
00:14and here are 10 Star Wars Scenes Everyone Wishes They Could Unsee.
00:2010. Background Stormtroopers Detract from the Action – Obi-Wan Kenobi
00:25Make no mistake, Debra Chow and Disney brought more than their fair share of
00:29excellence to the Star Wars streaming service party with this year's Obi-Wan Kenobi.
00:34But even with some outstanding performances and a rather gripping tale being told,
00:38there was still no escaping the fact fans were taking in an epic story that,
00:43unfortunately, had to be brought to life on a TV budget.
00:46Never was this more evident than during Part 4's detour to the Fortress Inquisitorius,
00:51when Kenobi and Tala Durith attempt to sneak off the Nur base with a young Leia Organa.
00:56On top of the majority of the Imperial forces either looking like they were jarringly added
01:00in during post-production, a quick glance at the stormtroopers occupying the background
01:04during this sequence depicts the platoon seemingly walking straight at a window for some reason.
01:10Clearly, the idea here was to simply make the setting feel as busy as possible,
01:14but the lack of thought and attention put into something as simple as the
01:17logic behind the direction a background Brigade are heading in ultimately ends
01:21up detracting from what should have been an otherwise daring escape sequence.
01:269. Rey and Kylo Kiss Episode 9, The Rise of Skywalker
01:30There's nothing wrong with pumping a little love into this galaxy far, far away in the slightest.
01:35Just look at the whirlwind romance experienced by the unlikely lovers that were Han Solo and
01:40Leia Organa. However, what separates this OG romantic story from some of the other
01:45celebrated instances of Star Wars lovin' is the fact that Solo and Organa's relationship felt
01:51organic, charming and logical based on the circumstances offered up. The same most definitely
01:56could not be said for the jarring development of passion that concluded Ben Solo's big screen
02:01journey in The Rise of Skywalker. After spending much of the sequel trilogy at odds with one
02:05another and rarely even offering up an ounce of sexual tension, Rey and a soon-to-be-dead Ben
02:11share a quick smooch on the back of the latter reviving the former post-Palpatine pulverizing.
02:16With just about everyone recoiling at this odd smooch from the get-go,
02:19it came as little surprise to see Disney attempt to backtrack on the kiss in the
02:23film's efficient novelization, classing it more as a kiss of gratitude. But that still
02:28couldn't erase the fact that this locking of lips was about as bizarre as it was unearned.
02:338. Happy Life Day, Star Wars Holiday Special While the original trilogy cast,
02:39looking as though their souls are escaping their bodies, and a surreal cooking show sequence are
02:43just a few of the other minutes of Star Wars Holiday Special fans would like to have back,
02:48it's the Life Day main event that steals the unwanted show.
02:52Coming together to celebrate the aforementioned Wookiee holiday, while surrounded by said furry
02:56race all dressed in bizarre red cloaks, Chewbacca, Luke, Leia, Han, C-3PO and R2-D2 all take a moment
03:03to celebrate at the Tree of Life, before the Princess begins to let loose a celebration song.
03:08Yep, it's as insanely cringey and painful as it sounds on paper, but props to Carrie Fisher for
03:13smashing the vocals here. Even if the lyrics of to live, to laugh, to dream, to grow, to trust,
03:18to love, to be have haunted fans' nightmares ever since.
03:237. A Vesper Gang Backs Up Bubba, The Book of Boba Fett
03:28While Disney most definitely have not been afraid to take a few risks when bringing their small
03:32screen corner of the galaxy far, far away to life over the last few years, a few of the more
03:36out-there occurrences found housed within the Book of Boba Fett in particular didn't quite land
03:41with the masses in the way Jon Favreau and the gang were hoping. Specifically, the introduction
03:45of a set of hover-vesper-boasting youths during episode three caused quite the stir online upon
03:50the divisive chapter's debut. And while it's worth noting that excessively colourful vehicles
03:55and 50s-inspired aesthetics aren't exactly new in this galaxy far, far away, some were quick to
04:00blast the arrival of the Power Ranger scooters, and subsequent Tatooine chase sequence has not
04:05been Star Wars. But Boba star Temura Morrison himself seemed entirely unfazed by this largely
04:11negative response to the vibrant youngsters and their rides, explaining,
04:14They brought a lot of colour to it, I thought. They were great. We're working hard.
04:196. That Incestuous Kiss Episode 5 – The Empire Strikes Back
04:24After laying a seemingly innocuous smacker on Luke Skywalker's cheek during their attempts to
04:29flee the Death Star in A New Hope, Leia Organa doubles down on her fondness for planting her
04:34lips on the Jedi in training in The Empire Strikes Back's opening stages. And while this was clearly
04:39little more than a way of stirring up some jealousy within an on-looking Han Solo at the time,
04:43the eventual revelation of Leia being very much Luke's long-lost sister left most fans sharing
04:48a similar look as the one spotted by the smuggler. With George Lucas very much making it up as he
04:53went along, despite what the creator would have you think, it's most likely the initial plan
04:57wasn't to have Leia eventually be revealed as the highly-anticipated Other referenced by Yoda
05:02in Episode 5. And even if it was, that would mean Lucas was absolutely fine with showcasing
05:07a few bites of incest in the lead-up to the reveal. Which makes the entire scenario even
05:11more uncomfortable, doesn't it? 5. De-Aging The Galaxy
05:16Constantly improving technology is aiding those folks producing the latest Star Wars adventures
05:21in pushing the boundaries as to what is actually possible to bring to life on our screens.
05:26And while this galaxy's simply stunning space skirmishes have become even more impressive by
05:31the project for the most part, the utilising of everyone's seemingly new favourite CGI toy
05:36in the form of digitally de-aging actors hasn't quite set this space-aged world on fire.
05:41Sure, seeing the likes of Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher be both brought back to life
05:45and thrown into a time machine, respectively, in their heavily CGI'd Rogue One appearances
05:49as Grand Moff Tarkin and Princess Leia was interesting at a glance, but no amount of
05:53groundbreaking technology in the world could erase the disturbing feelings conjured up when
05:58taking in an entirely unnatural age-down performance that is primarily brought into
06:02being via a computer. But with Luke Skywalker also getting in on the de-aged action on the
06:07Mandalorian as of late, don't expect Disney to back away from this consistently jarring
06:12deepfake tool any time soon. 4. Noooooooo!
06:17Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith After years of giddily anticipating what
06:22the moment Darth Vader officially stumbled into the world in his iconic cyborg form for the very
06:27first time would actually consist of, George Lucas had one hell of a surprise waiting for his
06:31passionate Darth devotees. Hot on the heels of being incinerated by old pal Obi-Wan Kenobi on
06:37Mustafar and seemingly dispatching his missus in a fit of rage, a recently turned Anakin Skywalker
06:42is kitted out with new bionic legs and a rather noisy life support machine, and with fans the
06:47world over gripping their cinema seats as they awaited the very first utterances to tumble out
06:51of this legendary face covering's grills, an almost instantly infamous scene was born.
06:56Upon being told a lie by his new master about him being responsible for Padme Amidala's death
07:01on the fiery planet, Vader breaks free from his restraints and unleashes his despair in the form
07:06of crushing the surroundings with the Force and letting loose a melodramatic Noooooooo for good
07:11measure. Far from announcing the biggest bad in the galaxy with an almighty bang, this cyborg
07:16Vader debut acted as simply another prequel beat better left forgotten.
07:213. The Jedi Rocks Rendition – Episode 6 – Return of the Jedi
07:26The musical presence felt in George Lucas' flicks has played host to some of the galaxy's many highs
07:31and lows. And unfortunately, despite iconic tunes like the ones heard in a New Hope's Mos Eisley
07:37Cantina and the great many legendary themes produced by the likes of John Williams over
07:41the years, proving that Star Wars can get things very much right on the music front,
07:44Return of the Jedi's revised Jabba the Hutt concert sits as a painful reminder of how
07:49so crushingly wrong Lucas and co could also get their musical occurrences.
07:53During one of his many special edition revisits to his original trilogy, Lucas decided that the
07:58already questionable lap-t-neck performance seen within Jabba's palace at the start of
08:02Return of the Jedi needed both a CGI and musical overhaul. Replacing the tune with a far more
08:07excruciating Jedi Rocks monstrosity, a number of digital additions were also added to the mix,
08:13in the form of singer Psy's snoodles being pointlessly CGI'd up and a grisly backing
08:18screamer most could have done without being exposed to over the course of their lives.
08:222. Anakin and Padme Get Intimate – Episode 2, Attack of the Clones
08:27Despite all of George Lucas, Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen's best intentions,
08:32the record will always show that this particular prequel tale of forbidden love became the
08:36galaxy's most infamous damp squib. And while it's hard to land on just one prequel-loving
08:40moment that fans could have likely done without, with Skywalker's distaste of sand and Amidala's
08:45declaring of her lover breaking her heart amidst the flames both ranking pretty high in the
08:50cringe-inducing list of love, both of these moments pale in comparison to the pair's hilariously
08:55intense exchange in the darkness on Naboo. Everything from a rather creepy Jedi Padawan
09:00claiming he's in agony being so close to his love, to Padme confessing that the couple would
09:04be living alive if they kept their lover's secret were enough to leave most reaching
09:08for their popcorn buckets for all the wrong reasons. That being said, it can't have exactly
09:12been easy having to re-dub the entire flick due to noisy cameras, as recently revealed by
09:16Ewan McGregor, with both lovebirds likely having to conjure up their forced attempt at some verbal
09:21chemistry almost entirely within a recording booth some time after shooting said flickering fire scene.
09:281. That's Solo Origin – Solo, A Star Wars Story
09:32Disney's attempts to spin off the galaxy's favorite rebellious smuggler got off to perhaps
09:36the most frustrating of starts humanly possible back in 2018. Before blasting into how the
09:41lovable Han Solo became best buds with a certain towering Wookiee, or forged part of his iconic
09:46legacy during a legendary making of the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs, someone thought it
09:50would be a simply outstanding idea to have the character-made legend by Harrison Ford be christened
09:55his immortal moniker in the most ridiculous of circumstances in the film's opening stages.
10:00Upon being asked by an Imperial officer who Han's people were as he attempted to sign up to the
10:05Empire, the old and Ehrenreich younger iteration of the future general would declare that he doesn't
10:10have any and is alone. Feeling somewhat cheeky in the moment, said officer then quips back by
10:14branding him Han Solo. What made Solo such a captivating presence in the first place was the
10:22aura of mystery that accompanied him out of the gates, and said aura was effectively proton
10:27torpedo to smithereens from the off-air. Thanks to a pointless branding and film in general,
10:31Disney and Force fans would rather have struck from the record.
10:45Outro
