There's been major disruption on the Hume Highway after a serious crash involving a mini van. The highway was closed near Marulan for several hours yesterday afternoon. Several people, including children, have been injured, and some to a serious degree.

00:00Aidy, what we know is that around midday today, a van carrying eight people crashed just behind
00:09me at Maroolin, just north of Goulburn.
00:13That is, of course, on the Hume Highway, the main thoroughfare connecting Sydney and Canberra.
00:18What we know at the moment is that eight people were inside that vehicle, four were injured
00:23with minor injuries, including the driver, who we understand is a man in his fifties.
00:29He's been hospitalised and taken for mandatory testing.
00:34Of the seven others, three have suffered minor injuries and four have been seriously injured.
00:40We know that of the passengers, three were primary school aged children and two were
00:46teenagers.
00:47What we also know is that the van had a disability sticker on the back and showed that it was
00:53able to carry people with a disability.
00:55In fact, when we were here earlier, we saw police officers lift the wheelchair from the
01:00grass in the middle of the road and put it back into the van so that it could be towed
01:05with the van when it eventually moved out of this area.
01:09Now, of course, with the crash of this magnitude involving this many people, that meant a massive
01:15response.
01:16Eleven ambulance resources were deployed to this area, including three helicopters.
01:23We also know that the patients were sent to a variety of hospitals, including the Canberra
01:28Hospital as well as Westmead and Liverpool.
01:31Now, with a response of this size, we can obviously tell that the Hume Highway would
01:37have been closed and it was closed for hours in both the northbound and southbound lanes.
01:43It just opened up late this afternoon and it was clearing a little earlier today.
01:48A huge backlog of traffic who've been here at a standstill for hours.
