Welcome everyone to another fantastic episode of Tech Connect brought to you by Vision Forward Association! As always, our Assistive Technology Experts are excited to bring you the latest and greatest in Assistive Technology News and Reviews!

The Meta Smart Glasses, made in collaboration with Ray-Ban, have already stirred up a significant amount of attention in the AT field. These sleek glasses have a built in 12 megapixel camera and come equipped with Meta AI which not only provides handsfree voice control but also recognizes objects, text, and even people! But that's not all! Meta AI can then answer any follow-up questions you might pose to it.

So how could Meta possibly get any betta? With Be My Eyes of course! Cory and Luke are happy to report that now you can use your Meta Glasses in conjunction with Be My Eyes! That means you are now able to request a volunteer who can help you by seeing directly through the Meta's built in camera. The best part? It can all be done handsfree via voice commands!

Join Cory and Luke as they run through how to set up this feature, demonstrate its use, and discuss the exciting future of the Meta Glasses!

00:00Hi all, and welcome back to another exciting edition of Tech Connect.
00:03I'm Luke, he's Corey, I'm wearing my sweater,
00:06he's wearing the Meta to find out how it's gotten better.
00:09Let's check it out.
00:17So today we're taking a look at the Meta Ray-Ban glasses.
00:20We did a video on these before.
00:22You can find a link down in the chat box there.
00:24And this is a really cool pair of AI glasses that can do some great stuff,
00:28but they just added a whole new feature.
00:31Corey, what is the new feature?
00:32Yeah, so there has been talk obviously of Aira and Be My Eyes getting added to the Meta glasses.
00:39Be My Eyes is officially now available.
00:43I think they are doing a bit of a slow rollout.
00:45So if you don't see it in your MetaView app, just hold tight.
00:49It'll be there soon. Same with Aira.
00:52I think they're doing a slow roll out on that.
00:54But today we are going to be taking a look at the new Be My Eyes feature.
01:00We're going to see how to enable it, how to connect to a volunteer.
01:03So if you're already using Meta glasses and you're using the Be My Eyes integration,
01:08throw it down in the toolbox below and let us know.
01:11All right, and please do like and subscribe if you like the videos.
01:15It does help us to produce even more great content.
01:20All right, Corey, so I've got the Meta glasses.
01:23I've got the MetaView app, but how do I enable the Be My Eyes feature?
01:26Well, first you want to make sure that you have Be My Eyes app installed on your phone and logged in.
01:32I just told you, Corey, I downloaded the MetaView app.
01:34That's why I told you to make sure you also have the Be My Eyes.
01:37Yeah, I'm pretty positive.
01:40I haven't tried it without, but I'm pretty positive you need the Be My Eyes app installed
01:45and you want to be logged in because you're going to see in a moment when we connect them,
01:49it actually doesn't even ask us to log in.
01:51So I'm assuming it's grabbing the credentials from my Be My Eyes app.
01:55So what you're going to do once you've got your MetaView app open,
01:58you're going to go down and tap on settings.
02:04And then we're going to look for accessibility.
02:12And now we're going to tap on accessibility.
02:18And within the accessibility option, we just have one option right now, Be My Eyes.
02:23Now, if you're watching this later on, you might see Aira in here at that point,
02:28but right now we just have Be My Eyes.
02:29So we're going to tap on that.
02:36And on the Be My Eyes, we should be able to find an option here
02:40that's going to allow us to enable or turn it on.
02:47There we go. Connect.
02:52All right. And we'll tap on connect again.
03:01And it tells us it can now, Be My Eyes can now be used with our glasses.
03:05So we'll tap OK. There we go.
03:10So we've now connected our MetaGlasses to Be My Eyes.
03:14If you ever want to disconnect or get rid of that connection, just follow the same steps.
03:19You'll go to settings, accessibility. But this time under Be My Eyes,
03:23you'll see that you have an option to disconnect versus connect.
03:26Another way to disconnect is turn off your phone and never turn it on again.
03:30Yes, or turn off the glasses. Yep.
03:33Or you could break the phone and the glasses and throw them in the ocean.
03:37That is actually the recommended way to disconnect.
03:41Let's try out the actual integration.
03:44We're going to connect with a volunteer and see if they can help me identify a very important product.
03:52All right, we have got our Be My Eyes turned on, Luke.
03:56It is time to connect with a volunteer because I asked you what this product was
04:01and you refused to tell me what it was.
04:05You said you'd be independent and find another way to find out about this product.
04:09I feel like you're painting me in a very poor light here.
04:12Well, you know what? If the brush fits in your hand.
04:16That's not a saying. Paint away, said Picasso.
04:21You never heard that from Pablo Picasso? No, I feel like you just made that up.
04:25No, I saw it on the Internet. Abraham Lincoln posted it.
04:29You gotta believe it. He was very honest.
04:31You really think someone would do that? Just go on the Internet and tell lies?
04:35All right, so we are going to go ahead and use our trigger phrase here
04:39and we're going to connect to a Be My Eyes.
04:41Trigger warning on the screen, please, Jonathan.
04:46All right, here we go. Hey Meta, Be My Eyes.
04:49Calling a volunteer on Be My Eyes.
04:52All right, so it's opened up the Be My Eyes app on my phone.
04:57And it's now connecting with a Be My Eyes volunteer.
05:01Hello. Hi, I was just hoping you could let me know what product this was, please.
05:06Oh, yeah. Move over to the right. The right a little bit.
05:10To the left, sorry. It says hard surface disinfecting wipes.
05:15Perfect. I appreciate it. Thank you so much.
05:17Yeah, no problem. Have a great one. You too. Thanks. Bye.
05:22So perfect. Stopped using your glasses camera.
05:24I was able to get connected to a Be My Eyes volunteer.
05:28They could obviously see through the camera lens on the glasses
05:32and then I could talk with them. What a lovely person it was.
05:35Yeah, she was very nice. I appreciate it. Now that I'm assuming the camera,
05:40I was holding it too far to the right.
05:42So they obviously told me to move it over to the left. No, no, she didn't.
05:46That was your bad, I'm afraid. Okay. Yeah, she said move to the right.
05:49Now you thought she meant the product,
05:51but the way she phrased it to me meant move your head to the right,
05:54which would have worked. Oh, so if you go, oh, yeah, that's to say,
05:57okay, you're a genius. I am not.
06:01So why don't we move on to the conclusion where we conclude that I'm not a genius.
06:05Okay, let's do it.
06:09All right, Colby. Well, we have connected with Be My Eyes
06:12and it's been a lovely experience. The Metaglasses,
06:16we've obviously done a video before. They're really cool.
06:19They continue to add new features that make them a viable option for people
06:24with vision loss, especially now with adding Be My Eyes,
06:29you know, being a free service. You might ask,
06:31well, maybe you won't ask because you are smarter than I am,
06:34which we concluded in the last episode.
06:37But you know, you're not getting the Be My Eye feature because you don't need it.
06:41You've already got the Meta AI feature.
06:42So you're just getting the original Be My Eyes service of connecting to a sighted volunteer.
06:49So that coupled with Aira when it happens is great
06:53because we're getting hands-free service.
06:55You know now if you're out and about traveling
06:58or whatever having that hands-free on the glasses just makes life so much easier.
07:03So yeah, two thumbs up as Cisco and Eber used to say.
07:07All right. Well good. Yeah, and if you have the Metaglasses already,
07:10this is a free edition. And if you don't they start from $299.
07:14So as far as assistive technology goes,
07:17this is one of the cheapest products on the market if not the cheapest.
07:20That is true. So why not to get yourself a pair
07:22and also why not check out Tech Connect Live. We do a live show.
07:26This is Corey and Luke unfiltered and you can check it out.
07:30Uncensored. Well, no, we are censored. We censor ourselves.
07:32Safe for work. We are definitely safe for work.
07:34Safe for work. Yes. And with this is a show that we do every other Thursday.
07:39It's on the opposite week, the week that we don't release a produced video
07:43and we've done recently some excellent episodes on things such as
07:47Picky Bot and the Smart Vision 3 and a number of other awesome topics.
07:51So you can go ahead and check those out by joining our YouTube channel

08:07give or take, we'll have our live video posted up there.

08:12So always check out our feed so that you don't miss any exciting videos.
08:18You are going to want to use that little box down below to do stuff.
08:22Oh, you mean the lunch box? Yes.
