01:34This follows years of negotiations with the families having faced significant risks living in Afghanistan
01:39A maximum of 300 Afghan nationals will stay in a secure, undisclosed location in the Philippines as part of the SIV program
01:46Their stay, including housing and security, is fully funded by the U.S. government
01:51They are restricted to the facility except for two trips
01:53One for visa interviews at the U.S. Embassy in Manila, and another for their flight to the United States
01:59The program will last 100 days, with all applicants expected to depart the Philippines by March 2025
02:05Each Afghan can stay for a maximum of 59 days, and if their SIVs are not processed within 50 days, they must leave the Philippines
02:13The Globe and Mail reports on Sunday, January 6, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to announce his resignation as leader of the Liberal Party
02:22Citing three sources, The Globe and Mail says that while it is unsure of the exact timing, it anticipates Trudeau will announce his resignation before a crucial national caucus meeting on Wednesday
02:31It is unclear whether Trudeau will leave immediately or stay on as prime minister until a new leader is chosen
02:37His departure leaves the party without a permanent leader ahead of a national election, which must occur by late October, where polls suggest the Liberals will struggle against the Conservatives
