00:00I will say there is a scene, people often ask me if this is true and it is true,
00:04there was a scene where Leonardo DiCaprio, who's so brilliant in the film,
00:08actually smashed glass and had a bloody hand.
00:12Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the times
00:16actors somehow managed to improve a scene by messing things up.
00:22Number 10. Breaking a Toilet. The Master.
00:24Just me, Freddie. Just you. I'm the only one that likes you.
00:28Joaquin Phoenix plays Freddie, a troubled World War II veteran who's prone to violent outbursts.
00:34After he finds himself getting sucked in by a cult,
00:36he and the cult leader get arrested and tossed in jail.
00:43Freddie erupts in anger, doing his best to destroy his prison cell
00:47even though his hands are cuffed behind his back.
00:50Phoenix didn't break the toilet on purpose.
00:52In fact, he didn't even realize he could break the toilet when he kicked it.
00:59The accidental destruction perfectly illustrates the pointlessness of Freddie's rage.
01:06It's harmful to himself and those around him, and yet he can't contain it.
01:10But implanted with a push-pull mechanism that keeps you fearful of authority and destructive.
01:17Number 9. An Expensive Sneeze. Annie Hall.
01:20In this classic rom-com, Alvy and his girlfriend Annie are hanging out
01:24with some friends when they pressure him to try cocaine.
01:26I don't want to put a wad of white powder in my nose. There's the nasal membrane.
01:30You never want to try anything new, Alvy.
01:32How can you say that?
01:33He's never touched the stuff before and doesn't seem particularly interested in doing so now.
01:38He picks up the box to examine it and just as his friend tells him how expensive it is,
01:43he sneezes, blasting the white powder everywhere.
01:49That sneeze was not in the script. It happened during rehearsals by accident,
01:54and Woody Allen thought it was so funny he put it in the movie.
01:57That was a smart move because test audiences cracked up at the now famous gag.
02:02Number 8. Accidentally Recreating an Iconic Scene. Casino Royale.
02:06One of the most memorable scenes from the James Bond franchise is in the very first Bond film,
02:11Dr. No, when the gorgeous Ursula Andress emerges from the ocean in a white bikini.
02:1640 years later, Die Another Day paid homage to the scene with Halle Berry and Pierce Brosnan.
02:33And just four years after that, Daniel Craig recreated the scene again.
02:38According to the script, Bond is supposed to keep swimming,
02:41but Craig ran into a sandbar and had to stand up.
02:44The similarities between this scene and the version from Dr. No were obvious to everyone.
02:53Craig might not be thrilled about how famous the shot has become,
02:56but it certainly did not hurt his image.
03:06Number 7. George C. Scott Trips and Falls. Dr. Strangelove.
03:10Comedy often doesn't age well, but this movie is an exception.
03:14Stanley Kubrick's 1964 satire about an impending nuclear apocalypse is
03:19packed with laugh-out-loud moments and ridiculous characters.
03:32And none more so than George C. Scott's General Buck Turgidson.
03:40Scott was known for playing serious figures,
03:49so his over-the-top portrayal of Turgidson was a departure from his usual routine.
04:00In this scene, a group of officials discuss the fallout of nuclear war,
04:04and Turgidson, as usual, is flipping out.
04:07At one point, he slips and falls, makes a surprisingly graceful recovery,
04:12and carries on as if nothing happened.
04:18The fall was a complete accident, but Scott, a consummate professional,
04:22stayed in character, and Kubrick kept it in.
04:25Number 6. A Tablecloth Trick Works Too Well. How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
04:30Tomorrow is Christmas. It's practically here.
04:34Jim Carrey is a master improviser,
04:36and some of his funniest movie moments were not in the original scripts.
04:53Case in point, this scene in which the Grinch gets ready
04:56to attend a Whoville Christmas celebration.
04:58When Carrey grabs the tablecloth,
05:00he's supposed to send everything on the table clattering to the floor,
05:03but the trick works a little too well.
05:05In a moment of comedic genius,
05:07he comes back into frame and just knocks everything over himself.
05:17It's an unexpectedly hilarious improvisation,
05:20made even funnier by Carrey's gift for physical comedy.
05:23Number 5. An Unplanned Frisbee Bite. The Mask.
05:28Oh, my God.
05:31Open up.
05:31Oh, my God.
05:34Jim Carrey's improv skills save the day again,
05:37but this time, he wasn't the one who messed up the scene.
05:40As his character Stanley tries to hide the evidence of his crimes from a nosy detective,
05:44his dog Milo spots a frisbee in Stanley's hand and just can't help himself.
05:48Milo, whose real name was Max,
05:50hangs on for dear life despite Stanley's attempts to wrench the frisbee away from him.
05:54No, no, no. Stop it.
05:56I'm coming. Okay, I'm coming. I'll be right there.
06:01A lesser actor would have broken character, but this is Jim Carrey.
06:05Max's commitment to the bit and Carrey's decision to just roll with it
06:08make for an unplanned piece of comedy gold.
06:11Don't insult my intelligence, Ipkiss.
06:13He robs the bank you work in and then I find this in the Coco Bongo.
06:16Number 4. Bart's Laugh. Blazing Saddles.
06:20You try keeping a straight face in the presence of Gene Wilder.
06:23It's practically impossible.
06:24In this scene, the Waco kid has a heart-to-heart with Sheriff Bart
06:28about why the townsfolk won't accept a black lawman.
06:30What did you expect? Welcome, sonny. Make yourself at home. Marry my daughter.
06:39It's obvious that Cleavon Little is stifling a smile throughout Wilder's monologue,
06:43and at the end, he breaks into a genuine laugh.
06:46And who can blame him? Wilder's delivery is brilliant.
06:49The common clay of the New West. You know, morons.
07:00Although Little technically broke character, the scene is that much funnier for it.
07:04Mel Brooks obviously agreed, since he used that take in the final cut.
07:08Did you hear that? Now it's pleased. This morning I couldn't get the time of day.
07:13Number 3. Confusing Ant-Man for Spider-Man. Ant-Man and the Wasp, Quantumania.
07:19This mistake was so unintentionally hilarious, they put it in the trailer.
07:31Scott is enjoying his newfound fame as an Avenger,
07:34but he realizes he's not quite at the top of the A-list
07:37when his local barista confuses him for a different red-costumed hero.
07:41That's Cuban actor Ruben Rabasa, who was thrilled to be involved with a Marvel movie,
07:51even though he wasn't super familiar with this film's main character.
07:55Rabasa wasn't supposed to call Scott Spider-Man, but the flub,
07:58and Paul Rudd's absolutely perfect reaction, were so good, they made it into the movie.
08:04The line is so funny, it's hard to believe it wasn't scripted.
08:11Number 2. Star-Lord Drops the Orb, Guardians of the Galaxy.
08:27The jury is still out on whether this was truly a mistake or just a last-minute improv.
08:32Chris Pratt originally claimed that it was an accident,
08:34and director James Gunn said as much in the DVD commentary.
08:41Later, Pratt changed his story and said he dropped the orb on purpose,
08:49but Gunn wasn't 100% convinced that was true.
09:01Whatever the case may be, it is a hilarious moment that fits perfectly
09:05with both Peter Quill's character and the tone of the film.
09:08Kudos to Chris Pratt for either a clever improvisation or a quick recovery.

09:29Number 1. Leonardo DiCaprio Cuts His Hand, Django Unchained.
09:33Staying in character after slicing your hand open mid-scene? Now that's dedication.
09:38Calvin Candy has just discovered that his dinner guests are there under false pretenses,
09:43and he is not happy about it. When DiCaprio slammed the table,
09:47he accidentally smashed a glass and cut his hand pretty badly.
09:51Amazingly, he finished the scene, but the horrified looks on his co-stars' faces are
09:55totally real. When Quentin Tarantino finally called cut, they gave DiCaprio a standing ovation.
10:202015's The Hateful Eight also includes a mistake that shocked the rest of the cast.
10:27The guitar that Kurt Russell smashed was a real antique on loan from a museum,
10:32and Jennifer Jason Leigh's shocked reaction was genuine.
10:40Needless to say, the museum was not happy.
