00:00Let's take a look at what's going on here as we look ahead and the New Year's Eve forecast is going to be greatly impacted by this storm system here.
00:06We've been talking about the rain and the snow here in parts of the north central U.S.
00:10That will be scooting east and will follow that storm into the northeast on New Year's Eve.
00:16And we'll be tracking some of that rain. There will be some snow across parts of Michigan and other areas here associated with this.
00:23And it will get a little cooler to the south, but the real charge of cold is going to come behind that system.
00:29But we do have something kind of fun, again, a few times a year.
00:34There will be NHL games outside on the ice outdoors here.
00:38And we're heading to Wrigley Field, or to Soldier Field I should say, St. Louis in Chicago.
00:43We have clouds, 40. It will get much colder after the game.
00:49But at 4 p.m. on New Year's Eve, the wind from the north-northwest is going to begin to pick up here.
00:55It will take some time for that to really bring the lasting change.
00:59So we're kind of catching the arrival of the cold on the front end of it.
01:02But regardless, actually with the real field temperature in the mid-20s, it's going to be nippy out there.
01:08And again, temperatures tanking throughout the course of the game.
01:11Then we head to the northeast here, and this is where we kind of intercept some of that milder air in progress.
01:17And it's going to be a murky, wet time there in Times Square.
01:21Make sure you have ponchos.
01:23And even though 51 degrees is a mild air temperature for this time of the year, it's going to be dreary out there.
01:29Once you get wet, even 51 degrees as the ball drops, it's going to be unpleasant if you're not staying dry.
01:3651 can feel cold if you're wet.
01:39So into the holiday travel forecast we go.
01:41And here is a stripe of snow moving through an area north of Chicago earlier in the day.
01:45The snow should be out of there before.
01:47The rain-snow mix should be out of there before the game.
01:49But we have soaking rain and rain and wind ending a snow there into parts of the mountains there,
01:55into western parts of West Virginia.
01:57The snow takes over there more significantly on New Year's Day with the interior northeast facing some of that.
02:02Decent travel weather into the Plains.
02:04So New Year's Day, high temperatures here, back below average in Chicago and in Minneapolis,
02:10but above average still in New York with some lingering rain.
02:13Temperature in Memphis 46, so the cold air is going to be discharging.
02:16And the interior northwest is where we find some of that snow and rain for Seattle.
