00:00So this evening we're on the A43 from Kettering towards Corby and we're doing a static roadside
00:04operation pulling vehicles in completely at random looking for any drink or drug drivers
00:10as part of our Christmas drink drive campaign. Typically this time of year it's going to be
00:14mainly people perhaps drinking at parties but we are aware that there is obviously some drug use
00:18as well. As part of these operations and these checks that we're running we have the ability
00:22to do drug tests at the side of the road so again we're also conducting that this evening.
00:26So the operation's been running for about a couple of hours now and disappointingly we've
00:30had five vehicle seizures already ranging for people that haven't got a driving license or
00:36there's insurance issues. We've also had one person in custody that's failed the roadside
00:41drug wipe and has tested positive for both cannabis and cocaine which again is rather
00:45disappointing. When vehicles are pulled in we're going to be speaking engaging with the driver
00:50and we're going to be doing basic checks looking at license insurance MOT and making sure that the
00:55vehicles are roadworthy. If there is any that fall foul of that they'll also be looked at.
01:00Sadly we've had an increase in fatalities so far this year and we don't want any more. We've still
01:04got a few more days until the end of the year and we want people to go out and have a nice time and
01:09enjoy themselves but equally we want them to get home safely. If you do go out and you do want to
01:14enjoy yourself then think about how are you getting home. Have you got a friend that can come and pick
01:18you up? Can you use a taxi? Anything that will stop you from getting behind the wheel of a car.
01:23Our aim ultimately is to make Northamptonshire's roads safer.
