00:00There's no doubt that a lot of challenges have come our way, not just in the country, but in the whole world this year.
00:07Despite that, the Philippines has remained strong in the face of those challenges.
00:12This proves the good position of our economy and our response to the needs of the Filipinos.
00:19We will return to those issues in PTV Highlights 2024 from Joshua Garcia.
00:30About 1.03 million female workers joined the labor force.
00:36Overall, this is 1.9 percent. Overall, it means that it still increased, but at a slower rate.
00:45This year, the economic growth will not be slowed.
00:49Under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.,
00:52the good future of the year 2025 is still visible.
00:57The priority here is to lower the unemployment rate or the number of unemployed to 4.0 percent,
01:03which is not even lower than it was in 2023.
01:06It is the lowest in almost two decades according to the data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority.
01:12One of the major contributions here is the entry of women into the labor workforce,
01:17where most of them are working for a long time.
01:19Year on year, between August 2023 and August 2024,
01:24about 1.03 million female workers joined the labor force,
01:30and about 1.03 million were absorbed in the labor market.
01:34It means that they are employed.
01:36Aside from this, the administration continues to strive for its initiatives.
01:40Investment from the private sector and the emerging digital economy.
01:44According to the National Economic Development Authority or NEDA,
01:48one of the main priorities of the government is to improve the quality and better income of Filipino workers,
01:55which has a major role in improving the economy of the country.
01:58Despite the trials that the country faces when it comes to inflation in 2022 and 2023,
02:03it slowed down and showed stability despite global supply chain disruptions
02:08and the rise in the price of oil in the Pandaigdigang Mercado.
02:12If the inflation rate goes down, it means that the price of goods has gone down.
02:19But if we look at the individual items or some group of items,
02:25there are some that really fell, negative.
02:27It means that the price really went down.
02:29An example of this is transport, gasoline, diesel, tomatoes, those are negative.
02:36But overall, this is 1.9% overall.
02:40It just means that it still went up, but at a slower rate.
02:45Now in 2024, the administration of President Marcos Junior is positive
02:50that the target of 6 to 6.5 gross domestic product or economy growth will be achieved.
02:55And if the implementation of the economic agenda continues,
02:58the target of reaching 8% GDP will be achieved at the end of his term in 2028.
03:03Gradually and step by step, the President's desire for a longer and, if possible,
03:10permanent development of the lives of every Filipino
03:13towards the fulfillment of the dream of everyone that no Filipino will be hungry anymore.
03:17I am Joshua Garcia, and these are the Highlights 2024 for the new Philippines.
