00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we're taking a look at 10 Frightening Bosses We've Encountered
00:11in Games That Weren't Horror or Horrored Adjacent.
00:19Before we begin we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to Mojo
00:23Plays and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:28Ancient Sirehound, Pikmin 4 Aside from the Dandori battles, Pikmin 4 evokes
00:44much of the peaceful, calming moods of previous games.
00:47Some boss battles will spike your stress levels a bit, but the real terror comes in the form
00:51of one giant poppo known as the Ancient Sirehound.
00:56Despite his shaggy dog appearance, the Sirehound's piercing red eyes indicate a more violent
01:01demeanor is about to unfold.
01:03The beastly canine utilizes some fierce elemental attacks and will give you little time to react
01:08and counter his abilities.
01:10Hope you've refined your Dandori skills enough.
01:17The Crawler, Fable 3
01:26Not to get too real, but we've all been through at least one situation where someone
01:30you knew becomes a completely different person.
01:32That's exactly why fighting the Crawler was way more terrifying than it seems on the
01:36surface.
01:37Not only do you have moments where the Crawler is saying horrible things in Walter's voice,
01:42but you also hear Walter's cries for help as you're trying to defend yourself from
01:46his possessed attacks.
01:47It honestly makes Fable 3's final moments kind of emotional, albeit a little uncomfortable.
01:55Shadow Teddy, Persona 4
02:09There was already something off about Teddy when we first met him in the Midnight Channel.
02:13Though he is a good egg, his shadow counterpart may as well be a demon straight out of hell,
02:19or Five Nights at Freddy's.
02:20In addition to the hateful things he says, Shadow Teddy has a traumatizing appearance
02:24with his shattered face, hollow stare, and roaring.
02:28Even after emerging from this battle okay, this darker version of Teddy has forever burned
02:32itself into our minds.
02:39Jacques, Spyro the Dragon
02:45When we first played Spyro, we thought Nasty Gnorc would probably be the most terrifying
02:49boss in the game.
02:50Nah, he's dumb and pathetic.
02:53Dr. Shemp is scarier than him.
02:55But Jacques is the boss that has effectively managed to live rent-free in our heads since
03:001998.
03:01The whole clown schtick was bad enough, did he really need to have a creepy smile and
03:06sharp teeth too?
03:08Maybe it's the PS1's visuals that are making him scarier than he actually is.
03:12Nope, we take it back, Jacques is just as frightening in the remake.
03:19Mimi, Super Paper Mario
03:27If body horror and spiders aren't your speed, then you might want to look away for this
03:32one.
03:33The Paper Mario games have taken some creepy turns in other entries, but nothing disturbed
03:38us more than Mimi.
03:40Until the boss fight against her, Mimi has put on this troublesome little girl persona.
03:45But when she finally decides to try and stop Mario once and for all, everything turns garish
03:50quick.
03:51Only way this could have gotten worse is if she started skittering around at top speed.
03:55For some of us, that head turn was enough to turn the Wii off for a few hours.
04:00Or maybe a few days.
04:07Monster Ock, Spider-Man
04:18When playing a Spider-Man game, one would imagine the scariest possible thing would
04:22be Venom, or maybe Carnage.
04:25No, as soon as you see something like Monster Ock, nothing in Spidey history will ever come
04:31this close to being nightmare fuel.
04:34We know this is just Carnage with Doc Ock's body and tentacles, but the NOISES this thing
04:40makes is haunting.
04:43What's worse is that you have very little breathing room to run away from him, and none
04:46of the barricades do anything to hinder him.
04:49Yeah, this was enough to keep us up at night when we were kids.
04:57Queen Vanessa, A Hat in Time
05:07Though Shadow Teddy managed to instill fear with his chilling gaze, A Hat in Time takes
05:11that stare a step further with Queen Vanessa.
05:15As you explore the manor, Queen Vanessa's ghostly shadow will stalk the halls and rooms,
05:20searching for you as you attempt to escape.
05:22It isn't enough to just avoid whatever room she's in, some interactions will alert her
05:27and cause her to head straight for the room you're hiding in.
05:30Your only means of defense is to hide or run away.
05:33Either way, this whole section was a complete left turn for A Hat in Time's overall cute
05:39and lighthearted nature.
05:45Vortex Queen, Echo the Dolphin
05:48Oh look at this game, with its cute dolphin and pretty ocean graphics, this should be
05:57a fun game to play.
05:59That's what you all thought back in your cozy Sega Genesis days, wasn't it?
06:03You poor naive fools, the lot of you.
06:07Echo the Dolphin hides a sinister and menacing boss fight that feels like it was ripped straight
06:12out of a Ridley Scott movie.
06:14Look at the Vortex Queen without Echo in the frame.
06:17Tell us, what part of this monstrosity says that this would be perfect for a game about
06:23a cute dolphin saving his home?
06:26We can wait, pause the video, I'll look for your arguments in the comments.
06:36Giygas, Earthbound
06:42If you have ever heard of Earthbound, you almost immediately think of the popular fan
06:46theory about Giygas being an unborn fetus because of the background during his boss
06:50fight.
06:51Thing is, that isn't exactly the reason why he's so terrifying.
06:54Be afraid of the Rorschach test on display all you want, but the real terror is in how
06:59Giygas doesn't exactly have a character model.
07:02The repeated tile pattern on display sort of indicates he's practically an alien entity
07:07more than anything else, a being greater than anything beyond our comprehension, a truly
07:13unexpected sight in a game about kids fighting dogs, robots, and sentient semi-trucks.
07:26Every Villain in the Franchise, Kirby Series
07:29We're not quite sure what Masahiro Sakurai and his successors have been smoking, but
07:39Every single Kirby game ends with some of the most disturbing boss fights imaginable.
07:45Since 1992, every single Kirby game has ended with a literal nightmare with villains like
07:51Marks, Zero, Dark Nebula, Void Termina, and many, many, many more.
07:58For a cutesy franchise such as this, these final bosses have often taken the franchise
08:02into a sudden, more twisted direction.
08:05Admittedly, it does help every Kirby game stand on its own in presentation and impact,
08:10so maybe going this hard is for the best?
08:20What's the scariest boss you've faced in a non-horror game?
08:23Did it make our list?

08:29videos every day.
