00:00Hi my name's Jack Marshall, I'm a digital food reporter for the Metro City World Group and today
00:06I'm just bringing you a bit of information about a recent trip I made out to try Costa's latest
00:11range of festive food. Now obviously as is the case with many of the big coffee brands, many of the
00:16big food brands just in general, when it comes to this time of year when the festive period is well
00:21and truly upon us, they like to bring out festive menus to get us all in the spirits with plenty of
00:26things like turkey and sage onion this and goodness knows what, but anyway so Costa have
00:30got a few things on their menu which are distinctly Christmasy and I thought what better way to show,
00:36try it out, show the world that Christmas spirit is well and truly alive and try them out and see
00:40what they're like really because often these things can be absolutely brilliant, loads of people wait
00:44all year round to try them, sometimes it can be a bit underwhelming, I want to find out for myself.
00:48So I went around to Costa and first thing to do was to try a couple of their festive drinks,
00:53so I tried the Caramel Nutcracker Latte and the Gingerbread Cream Latte. Now first things first,
00:59the Gingerbread Cream Latte was, it was nice, it was good, the gingerbread flavour wasn't
01:05the greatest in the world, it had a slight kind of plasticky artificially
01:10tinge to it just underneath it, not the greatest thing in the world, but the Nutcracker, Caramel
01:14Nutcracker Latte was lovely, I really enjoyed that one, the caramel really came through,
01:18it had a nice layer of cream on top, that was just really nice, that was a lovely kind of
01:22twist on a classic coffee latte with plenty of cream in there, plenty of like flavouring, so yeah
01:29that was good. The Nutcracker element, I don't really know what part of that, apart from just
01:34it being a Christmassy thing, I don't know what Nutcracker element was involved, maybe if they
01:38can brought some kind of praline element to it that would have been pretty cool, but anyway,
01:42I'm not here to tell the good people at Costa how to do things. Anyway, onto the food, I went
01:48with my partner and we both had something different, well two different things, but we both
01:51went along the same lines, we were both really in the mood for that classic brie, cranberry,
01:56bacon kind of thing, we've had a lot of, we've tried a lot of festive meal deals which has all
02:00been turkey, I thought let's switch it up, make it brie, cranberry and bacon, that kind of combo,
02:05so she had the brie, bacon and chilli jam and I had the brie, cranberry toastie. Now the toastie
02:12was very underwhelming, I've got to say, it was just basically what it says on the tin, it was
02:18just, you know, a bit of brown bread, quite a lot of cranberry jam, it almost tasted like a jam
02:24sandwich rather than something with brie on, obviously like the brie's the slightly more
02:28highbrow of the two ingredients in there, so they'd put slightly less of that on there,
02:33but I just wanted more brie, I wanted more creaminess from the bites, it was quite thin,
02:37it was quite flat, it was like, you know when you get a piece of a toastie and the two bits have
02:42kind of gone squee whiff like that, so one had slid over the edge, you've just got big mouthfuls
02:46of pretty dry bread, not the best in the world, I've got to say, bit underwhelmed by that, but
02:51the brie, chilli jam and bacon toastie, panini rather, was delicious, that was really good,
02:58that was just excellent, that had really nice kind of crispiness of the bacon, there was a bit more
03:03brie on it as well, you could definitely get a flavour of it and the jam was just a nice little
03:06cut through of it, all with a bit of sweetness on top of the savoury, so that was much the better
03:10option in my opinion, so yeah, just like I say, we just decided to head down to Costa to try these
03:15things out, I quite enjoyed it, it was nice, spent about 20 quid in total, albeit you probably in
03:22the grand scheme of things want a little bit more food for what you're paying in that kind of price
03:26range, but you get a couple of really good drinks with it as well, so yeah, let us know if you've
03:30been down to Costa, if you've tried out their festive range, if you really like it, if you
03:33prefer Starbucks or Gregg's or whatever it might be, let us know in the comments below, but thanks
03:38for watching, there's only one thing left to say and that's to have a lovely Christmas, Merry
03:42Christmas to everyone and thanks for watching and we'll see you all again soon, cheers!
