00:00In the month of December, when we're debunking many many myths about sexual health
00:06and on this particular episode we're talking about frequency of sexual activity
00:11whether there's a correlation with erectile dysfunction
00:21Many people ask how frequent should men have sexual activity
00:24In fact, it is actually quite dependent on different culture and different societies
00:30For example, in Malaysia, there's one study done called AP-SHO
00:35Asia Pacific Sexual Health and Overall Wellness Study
00:39that actually demonstrated in Malaysia, below age of 40, men probably have sex about twice a week
00:46and above 40, probably have sex once every 5 days
00:50and that's considered perceived as normal in Malaysia
00:54However, will frequent sexual activity above average actually induce sexual dysfunction
01:00such as erectile dysfunction?
01:02The answer is no
01:04In fact, there's some study done in Finland
01:07actually look at a few thousand men
01:10looking at how they actually have frequent sexual activity
01:14whether it causes sexual dysfunction such as erectile dysfunction
01:18In fact, they show that if men having sex less than once a week
01:24are actually twice as likely to have erectile dysfunction
01:29than men having sex at least once a week
01:32So therefore, on that basis, although it's a small study
01:35but it's a 5 years study to look at men in a small community in Finland
01:41So, will that be replicated in many societies?
01:46Actually, it's difficult to tell
01:48because men having sex more often are probably healthier
01:51and probably higher doses of protection from testosterone
01:55So therefore, in order to protect yourself
01:58you really need to stay healthy, higher dose of testosterone
02:02subsequently, having sexual activity as on a regular basis is a bonus
02:07and you avoid yourself from getting problems with erectile dysfunction
02:11For the following week, we're going to talk about
02:14whether somebody having erectile dysfunction is an early sign of poor health
02:20So, if you're worried about erectile dysfunction is an early sign of poor health
02:25or you think that it's completely fictional and has no truth in it
02:29then you need to stay tuned for Putting Dr. G on the Spot next week
