00:00The LGU in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu investigated the fireworks store that went off last Wednesday night.
00:13The local government will now find out why the store was permitted to be built near a house.
00:22There are so-called firecracker zones in the city where fireworks can be sold.
00:28The LGU in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu is also trying to get the fire safety permit of the firecracker stores.
00:43My fellow Filipinos, the low-pressure area outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility in the Pacific Ocean is now in a storm.
00:51It will bring heavy rain, tropical depression in Mindanao, especially in Zamboanga Peninsula, Palauat, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.
01:05It will bring heavy rain in Southern Luzon and Visayas.
01:08And because of the drought, it will bring heavy rain in Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region and Central Luzon.
01:16This includes the remaining part of Luzon.
01:20It is possible that it will continue to rain and it will be cloudy in the country until Christmas.
01:26In the rainfall forecast of Metro Weather, it is expected to bring light to intense rains in a large part of Luzon, especially in coastal areas tomorrow.
01:34It is also the same in different parts of Visayas and Mindanao.
01:38In Metro Manila, it is also possible that it will bring heavy rain.
01:41And, Kapuso, tonight is the longest night of the year, Winter Solstice.
01:49From the simple darkness given by the trees to the blockage of the mountains due to strong calamities such as the typhoon,
02:11it always reminds us that we should return the gratitude to Mother Nature through small things such as planting.
02:27This Christmas, tree planting is included in the group created by Andam Higala as a thank you to Mother Nature.
02:38The group is made up of students from the Universities of Cagayan de Oro and Young Professionals
02:46who helped to plant more than 500 seedlings of trees in Sitio Kamarahan in Barangay Pagatpat.
02:56Actually, as an environmental advocate, aside from being a women advocate,
03:02I am happy and I feel contentment to myself.
03:09It's because I am not the only one who can benefit, not only the environment, but also the future children.
03:16The group also celebrated Christmas full of gratitude to the animals.
03:23They went around the downtown area of Cagayan de Oro to feed less than 50 cats and dogs on the streets.
03:32They also joined the activities of a non-government organization called Love and Paws.
03:39I feel so happy because, imagine, we are the youth, we are youth serving the community,
03:48but even the animals, we can cater because we are not only focusing on people, animals also need help too.
04:00In addition to caring for nature and animals, the group also launched the Santa Higala Project this Christmas.
04:09Its goal is to share help and gifts to the five communities they chose,
04:16especially to those affected by the typhoon, demolition, fire and other calamities and disasters.
04:23Yeah, that's our way of giving back to the communities, to the communities that we promised to give back to children
04:31because when we started Santa Higala, actually we are a group of scholars in the city.
04:37And this is our way, even before in the last five years, we've been helping children in many other ways.
04:44The group also thanked the beneficiaries for their early acceptance of Aguinaldo.
04:50I am very thankful, even though it's just a simple thing,
04:55but it's because of the support from the members of the group,
05:02especially in caring for the children.
05:05I am very thankful that we are able to do this.
05:09Youth really has the power to start the change in our communities
05:14and this is like a message of hope for everyone who is watching
05:17that hopefully, regardless if you're still young,
05:22but I believe that it's never too young to lead and never too young to bring in change
05:28and start the change in our community.
05:31This Christmas, we should be thankful for many things,
05:36so in our simple way, we can show our gratitude for all the blessings we received.
05:45From GMA Regional TV, I am Cyril Chavez.
05:51Tune in, 24 hours.
