00:36Welcome to Deep Dive with Outlook.
00:38Today we will talk about the case related to Atul Subhash.
00:42On 9th December, Atul committed suicide in his flat in Bangalore.
00:48Before dying, he wrote a suicide note of 24 pages.
00:51Along with that, he made a video longer than an hour.
00:54In that video, he accused his wife Nikita, mother-in-law Nisha, brother-in-law Anurag,
00:59and uncle-in-law Sushil Singhhania for committing suicide.
01:04Not only this, he also accused the judge of Jaunpur Family Court, Rita Kaushik
01:10and her lawyer Madhav for bribery.
01:15In his video, Atul also said that if he doesn't get justice,
01:19then his ashes should be thrown in the gutter.
01:22As soon as this case came out, it started being discussed everywhere.
01:25MenToo is also trending on social media.
01:28Users are talking about the ancestors against men in legal and social areas
01:36along with the hashtag JusticeForAtulSubhash and hashtag MenToo.
01:39After this incident, people are very angry on social media.
01:43This incident has created a lot of tension between men
01:48and women and has led to legal reforms to ensure impartiality in marital disputes.
01:54It should be noted that in the last few years, many state judges have agreed that
01:59section 498A and domestic violence laws are one of the most misused laws in India.
02:06It has been found that many women use these laws not to get justice,
02:11but out of a sense of revenge.
02:14For example, in the case of Preeti Gupta Mukbanaam Jhankar Raj,
02:19the complainant accused her husband and his extended family, including her sister-in-law Preeti Gupta,
02:25of forging a dowry under section 498A.
02:30The Supreme Court found the allegations against the in-laws baseless
02:35because they did not live with the complainant and they had no role in the forged dowry.
02:42The court added that in such cases,
02:45a careful and thorough investigation is required to prevent the misuse of section 498A.
02:53According to NCRB figures from 2017 to 2022,
02:58the suicide rate of women is higher than that of men due to marital issues.
03:05In these cases, 25,197 women committed suicide,
03:10while 21,579 men committed suicide.
03:15In addition, in India in 2022, 52.5% of women were housewives.
03:25It is often claimed that due to false domestic violence,
03:30the suicide rate of married men is higher.
03:33In reality, due to false domestic violence in NCRB,
03:38there is no specific type of suicide.
03:40Between 2017 and 2022, the rate of suicide of married men is 30.8%,
03:49while due to marital issues, the suicide rate is only 3.4%.
03:55Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has also issued guidelines regarding alimony.
04:00Justice Vikram Nath and P. V. Varela's bench have talked about important points.
04:06In this context, the demand for gender-neutral laws has increased.
04:10Many lawyers and experts believe that no one should be held guilty on the basis of gender
04:16and the misuse of laws such as 498A should be stopped.
04:20Gender-neutral laws will decide that every period,
04:23whether it is a man, a woman or a person with other gender identities,
04:28can get equal opportunities for justice.
04:31They believe that this will help real victims in society get justice.
