More easter eggs and references than you can shake a spork at. Here’s our breakdown of the first Doctor Who 60th anniversary special - The Star Beast!
Transcript
00:00Hello everybody, Ellie here with Who Culture. What a weekend we've had. I can't believe
00:04I'm finally saying it but we have seen the first of the three anniversary specials. We
00:10have seen the Star Beast. So much excitement, so much excitement. If you haven't seen our
00:16ups and downs review of that episode then I'd suggest checking that out. In that video
00:20I said that the easter eggs would be coming separately so guess what we're going to talk
00:25about today? I do not doubt for a second that I have missed some. But when I tell you that
00:29we have been scouring the episode frame by frame for a considerable amount of time, I'm
00:34not even exaggerating. But if we have missed something then do let us know. But let's get
00:38started.
00:39Number 40. Obviously we've got quite a few easter eggs just in that opening recap because
00:44there are loads of flashbacks to episodes of series 4. So we start with the first shot
00:49being from the episode Forest of the Dead with the Doctor and Donna inside the TARDIS
00:54where he snaps his fingers. Then we have a shot of the TARDIS flying through space and
01:00that is from the episode The Parting of the Ways and The Stolen Earth because it's actually
01:03a reused shot. And we've actually got a list about that very thing coming very soon so
01:10stay tuned for that. Then we've got the Empress of the Raknos from The Runaway Bride. Stahl
01:15the Undefeated from the Sontaran Stratagem. Then we have the Shadow Proclamation HQ which
01:21we see in The Stolen Earth and it pops up again in The Magician's Apprentice, again
01:26it is a reused shot. And then most importantly we have a lot of shots of the Doctor Donna
01:33coming into being from Journey's End and The Stolen Earth and the Metacrisis coming into
01:38being. And then finally we have the moment that the Doctor wipes Donna's mind at the
01:42end of Journey's End.
01:45Number 39. So obviously this section we have the breaking of the fourth wall but this actually
01:50is not the first time in Doctor Who that this has happened. We have the 12th Doctor doing
01:54the same thing in Heaven Sent and also Martha Jones does it in Journey's End and the 4th
01:59Doctor also does it in the Invasion of Time. But probably the most iconic example of this
02:04happening is again from the 12th Doctor, it's his Bootstrap Paradox speech from before the
02:10Flood. So as I said, this is not the first time that we've seen breaking of the fourth
02:13wall in Doctor Who.
02:15Number 38. So then we go into the title sequence. This is the first time that we have seen David
02:22Tennant and Catherine Tate's names together, just those two, since Midnight.
02:27Number 37. Speaking of those opening title sequences, we have a credit, as I mentioned
02:32in the ups and downs, for Pat Mills and Dave Gibbons who are the original creators of the
02:38Starbeast comic strip from the 1980s.
02:41I'm fairly certain this is the first time that we've seen this happen as well. We have
02:45had episodes that have been adapted from a previous story but they've been adapted by
02:49the original writer and so we haven't had to credit original story creators and the
02:55writer of the episode because they are one and the same.
02:57So for example we had Paul Cornell who adapted his own story for Series 3 with Human Nature
03:02and the Family of Blood and we also had Gareth Roberts who adapted his own comic strip for
03:08The Lodger in Series 5.
03:10Number 36. So obviously we then have the reunion of the Doctor and Donna and this is the first
03:16time that they have seen each other since Donna's wedding at the end of The End of
03:21Time Part 2, although Donna doesn't see him at the wedding and he only sees her from afar
03:26so if we're gonna really really dig into it, this is the first time they've spoken to each
03:31other since he left her at the end of Journey's End and she didn't know who he was.
03:36He said, Donna I'm going now and she goes, yeah see ya.
03:39How sad was that interaction as well? So yeah, it's been over 15 years since they've spoken
03:44to each other and we finally have that reunion.
03:47Number 35. So obviously then we have Donna calling for Rose. Rose is a name in itself
03:52that is very integral to David Tennant's Doctor in particular so that in itself is very significant
03:59and the response that we get from the Doctor to Donna calling Rose is the iconic, what?
04:04The three times, what? What? What?
04:07These were the first words that were spoken during that very first interaction between
04:11Donna and the Doctor all the way back in The Runaway Bride.
04:14Donna materialises in the TARDIS and the Doctor goes, what? And then it's all very,
04:19what? What? What? And like I said in the Ups and Downs drinking game, how many times anyone
04:24says the word what? But this became a bit of a theme, a bit of an iconic thing for David
04:28Tennant's Doctor. He repeated that word countless times throughout the rest of his run and then
04:33that tradition then came back when he regenerated at the end of The Power of the Doctor.
04:40So as I just mentioned, obviously it deserves to be in the count itself. Rose is very significant
04:46to this situation. When Donna first calls for Rose, the Doctor clearly isn't aware that
04:51it's her daughter and we think is Rose Tyler going to appear and so that in itself is very
04:56important and a very relevant name to see here. So it deserves to be in a category of
05:01its own.
05:02So Rose has a little side business making stuffed toys that she sends to Dubai. This
05:09could be a nod to the 2008 novel Beautiful Chaos in which Wilf hides Donna's travels
05:15with the Doctor from Sylvia by claiming that she's gone horse riding in Dubai. Also Dubai
05:20is where they filmed Planet of the Dead so that desert location was in Dubai so it's
05:26just maybe another little connection to David Tennant and Russell T. Davis and that era
05:30of Doctor Who.
05:31Number 32. So then of course we have the spaceship crashing and of course Donna has her back
05:37turned. Now this seems to be a running joke for the character of Donna. In The End of
05:41Time she misses Gallifrey appearing in the sky. After she wakes up having her memory
05:45wiped and people are phoning her and saying there's planets in the sky and she's like
05:49what have I missed now? She just always seems to miss the things that are happening. In
05:53The Runaway Bride she says that she missed the Sycorax ship flying over London because
05:57she had a bit of a hangover. And also in the episode Turn Left all of the moments that
06:03obviously happen because the Doctor is no longer there to stop them. She seems to miss
06:07most of those as well because she's just looking the other way or she's too busy. So it's just
06:10a running theme that Donna always misses all of these major events by having her back turned
06:16or being asleep or being hungover.
06:18Number 31. Then Donna calls the Doctor Skinny Man. Now this is something that she called
06:24the Doctor quite often throughout series 4. In Journey's End she calls the Doctor and
06:29the Metacrisis Doctor skinny boys in suits. She also claims in the Sontaran Stratagem
06:34that if you hug him you'll get a paper cut. So it's just a running joke that Donna always
06:38makes about David Tennant's incarnation of the Doctor being very skinny.
06:43Don't just stand there you skinny boys in suits. Get to work.
06:48Number 30. So when the Doctor goes to get into Sean's taxi and Sean says that the roads
06:53are all being closed, the Doctor gets out his psychic paper and he says he's the Grand
06:57Master of the Knowledge. And then Sean says that's his Grand Mistress and he tells the
07:01psychic paper to catch up, obviously referencing the fact that he was Jodie Whittaker not that
07:07long ago.
07:08And then, what word does he use getting into the taxi? Allons-y. We have the famous Allons-y
07:13which obviously was a word that the Tenth Doctor used quite often or a phrase that the
07:17Tenth Doctor used quite often throughout his run.
07:19Number 29. So then when the Doctor is trying to get some information out of Sean about
07:24Donna's current situation, he says that he is a friend of Nerys. Now Nerys is a friend
07:30of Donna's but kind of more of a frenemy. She was in attendance to both of Donna's weddings
07:35but it seems that Donna kind of has a love-hate relationship with Nerys. But it was good to
07:40hear that name drop in there again. I think a lot of people just... it seemed familiar
07:46to them obviously because we've seen her before.
07:49Number 28. And then of course the question we were all asking, the lottery ticket. At
07:53the end of The End of Time Part 2, the Doctor gives Donna a winning lottery ticket as a
07:58wedding present and we all wanted to know what had happened to those lottery winnings.
08:04Especially a clip that was released a few days before the episode aired that suggested
08:07that they were not rich. So where's all the money gone? And so that was referenced there.
08:11You know what happened? Donna gave it all away.
08:15Number 27. So then we have a newsreader that's standing outside the steel mill where the
08:21ship has crashed or landed. The mill is called Milson Wagner Steelworks and this is a really
08:29clever nod to Pat Mills and John Wagner who were the original writers for that Starbeast
08:36comic story. And also, as a side note, the news reporter section is a very RTD1 thing.
08:44We've mentioned before that we wanted to see Trinity Wells back. Now obviously we didn't
08:47see Trinity Wells here because it wasn't a global story, it seemed like there was only
08:52that one presenter there and well it didn't end well for him. I don't know that we've
08:55seen a news reporter at all in the Moffat or Chibnall episodes. I could be wrong, let
09:02me know if I'm wrong, but I can't recall any. Whereas in RTD1 that was a very common thing
09:08to see when a kind of alien situation occurred.
09:11Number 26. So when Rose and Donna are walking home we have the boys from Rose's school cycling
09:20past and calling Rose by her dead name, which is Jason. This is significant because while
09:26we later learn that Rose chose her own name and the significance of Rose choosing that
09:31particular name, the fact that Donna named her newborn baby boy at the time Jason is
09:38significant because the name Jason means healer. Healer obviously could then be translated
09:45to doctor and so it suggests that even when Donna's baby was born she had the doctor in
09:50her subconscious and chose a name that translated to that. That's so clever, that's so clever,
09:56I really love that detail. Number 25. Now as I said at the beginning, I have been going
10:01through this episode frame by frame and by doing so I have spotted something that I'm
10:07not saying no one else has spotted it, but I haven't seen it pop up anywhere yet. But
10:12if you look very closely on a shelf in Donna's kitchen we have Sporky. We have a little model
10:17Sporky on the shelf. This could mean nothing, it's just a decoration in their house but
10:22we also know that we have Disney involvement in Doctor Who now and so it feels a little
10:27bit like just a kind of Disney easter egg in there and we know that Pixar in particular
10:31are very big on their easter eggs so it feels really fitting that we've got a Pixar character
10:36as an easter egg in this new Disney collaboration. And there is also another Toy Story easter egg
10:42later on in the episode when they are sneaking through the house after they've gone through
10:46the different lofts and they're sneaking out of the house there is a man sleeping on his
10:50sofa with a bowl of crisps and this is a reference to Toy Story 2 when Woody is trying to sneak
10:56past Al who is asleep with a bowl of Cheetos. It's very clearly a nod to that scene as well.
11:02So I'm assuming that that is why we have Toy Story references in this episode to do with the
11:07Disney and Pixar easter egg situation and the Disney involvement with Doctor Who. I was very
11:12proud of myself for noticing that particular easter egg so I'll give myself a pat on the back.
11:17Number 24. So when Sylvia and Donna are in the kitchen together Sylvia is trying to distract
11:22Donna from talking about the spaceship and she says, guess who I saw? Susie Mare. Now at the end
11:27of Journey's End when Donna's memory has been wiped she is on the phone and she says,
11:32Susie Mare wouldn't lie, not unless it was about calories. Susie Mare wouldn't lie,
11:38not unless it was about calories. And it's just a little joke but Susie Mare is another character,
11:44another person in Donna's life and so again it's just nice to have a little name drop there
11:49and hear about Susie Mare. Number 23. Also noticed in the kitchen, in the house,
11:55lots of apples. Lots of apples that Sylvia presumably maybe has brought for Donna. Well
12:00you know the saying, an apple a day keeps the Doctor away and we know that Sylvia definitely
12:05doesn't want Donna to remember the Doctor so it just feels like a little wink wink nudge nudge.
12:10An apple a day keeps the Doctor away so look there's loads of apples, we don't want Donna
12:14remembering. Number 22. We then meet Rose's friend Fudge. Fudge was a character in the original
12:21Starbeast comic strip and in that original strip Fudge is actually the one who discovers and looks
12:26after Meep with Sharon Davies. Now obviously in this story that is replaced by Rose who takes in
12:33Meep but it's nice to see that we have a nod and a reference to the original characters from that
12:39original comic story. Number 21. We also have a lot of musical callbacks in this episode. As we
12:45all know Murray Gold has returned to compose the music for these specials and for the upcoming
12:51seasons with Shruti Gatwa as well and there are probably plenty we've missed but there are just a
12:56few significant ones that we did notice. We've had snippets of Ten's theme throughout the episode
13:02especially when the TARDIS first lands right at the beginning. We also then have Donna's theme
13:07sleeping through at moments as well, we have it when we have the whole Rose Watt situation. We
13:11also hear it when Sean is explaining what Donna did with the lottery money and when we have the
13:17Doctor making his sonic hologram we hear little snippets of what sounds like Ten's theme again
13:24but we also have maybe a little bit of validation which is part of his regeneration theme and also
13:29slight motifs of the Shepherd's Boy as well. So we do have a lot of musical references throughout
13:34the episode which personally I love because I love the score. Number 20. So then we meet Shirley Ann
13:40Bingham who is Unit Scientific Advisor number 56. Now as we learn right here the Doctor says I was
13:47number one so this is a role that originated all the way back in the 1970s in Spearhead from Space
13:53where the third Doctor took on that role and we've also got some other iconic names who previously
13:58took on that role. We have Malcolm Taylor who we see in Planet of the Dead and we also have Petronella
14:03Osgood. Now the fact that we now have Shirley as the Scientific Advisor does make you wonder
14:10is that no more of Osgood? Presumably there's only one. If we now have Shirley I'm assuming
14:15that means that Osgood is gone and we're not going to see her again which may make some people a
14:19little bit sad but at least we have Shirley. Number 19. So also in that chat with Shirley the
14:25Doctor reveals that he had a bow tie, he was a Scotsman and he was a woman. Clearly that's
14:30references to being Matt Smith, being Peter Capaldi, being Jodie Whittaker 11, 12 and 13 respectively.
14:35But it's nice to just acknowledge those previous incarnations and remind ourselves that this is not
14:4010. This is a new incarnation who has all those memories and knows about all that's happened
14:46to those other three incarnations in the gap. Number 18. We then have a unit soldier mentioned
14:52to Shirley that an order has come from Geneva. Now Geneva is kind of where Unit's central base
14:59is. It's mentioned several times over the years that orders come from Geneva, things go above
15:03Geneva or as high as Geneva and most recently it was mentioned by Kate in Series 8's Death in
15:09Heaven. So it's a relevant location in relation to Unit. Number 17. Obviously it's revealed later
15:16on in the episode that Rose's stuffed toys that she's been making are actually all callbacks and
15:22memories of past monsters that the Doctor and Donna encountered with those memories being
15:27inherited by the Metacrisis. So we've got the blue one-eyed one which we later learn is meant
15:32to be a Dalek. We have the one with horns which is a Jadoon. We also have the one that Meep is
15:38holding which is I guess the devil that we see in uh... you'll all ridicule me for forgetting what that
15:44one's called but you know that one. We have the silver one with the headphones, that one's clearly
15:48a Cyberman. We have a cute little Adipose. We also have a dog looking one which I mean it could
15:53potentially be the werewolf from Tooth and Claw but to be honest it looks like Carvanista. Anyway
15:58I digress. And we also have an Ood and talking about those musical motifs, when the Ood comes
16:03on screen we hear a little motif of the Ood theme as well which is very beautiful. It's called the
16:07Satan Pit. I just looked further in the notes. The Satan Pit. Yes. And did anyone else spot this
16:13little guy hiding up on the shelf there? You can't tell me that's not supposed to be the face of Bo.
16:18And I kind of want one. And there's also one that resembles the Empress of Ragnos as well so
16:23yeah. Clever rose. Number 16. When Donna discovers Meep she says we've got a bloody Martian in the
16:30shed. She constantly refers to the Doctor as a Martian in The Runaway Bride so again it's just
16:35that typical Donna's reaction to seeing an alien is that they must be a Martian and that's funny
16:40and a good callback there as well. Number 15. So then obviously the Doctor is banging on the door
16:45and eventually gets into the house and Sylvia slaps him round the face and he says oh here we go
16:51again. And it seems like a bit of a theme where the Doctor gets slapped by the mother of his
16:57companion. Jackie slapped him. Francine also slapped him. He's been slapped many many times since then
17:04by various other characters but the Tenth Doctor in particular seemed to get quite a lot of slaps
17:09so it's quite surprising that this face would want to come back considering how abused it got when it
17:13was here the last time. Number 14. So once we've all calmed down and we're all in the living room,
17:19well maybe not all calmed down but once we're in the living room and the Doctor is bandaging up
17:23Meep's hand there is a photo on the mantelpiece, a framed photo of Donna and her dad which is a nice
17:31nod to Howard Atfield who unfortunately passed away following The Runaway Bride and was unable
17:35to then be in any of the episodes in series four and so it was kind of written into the story that
17:40her dad had passed away. So it's nice to have a nod to Howard Atfield in this scene. It does appear
17:46to be a still from The Runaway Bride where her dad is walking her down the aisle. It does make me
17:50question two things. First of all, where did Sylvia get a screenshot of that episode from? But it's
17:56pretty easy to establish that someone took a photo. But the thing I find more weird is this
18:01is a photo of Donna's wedding but it's not her wedding to Sean and so as nice as it is to have
18:06this lovely nod to Howard Atfield, it seems slightly strange that Donna would have a framed
18:10photo of her wedding day but not the wedding day to her current husband. We can look past it. We
18:17can look past it. It's a nice nod to her dad. Number 13. So then we have the mention of Wilf
18:24and we have that heartbreaking moment, that slight concern for a few seconds where we think
18:28oh no Wilf is gone and the doctor thinks oh no Wilf is gone and then we learn that he's in
18:32sheltered accommodation and we have a name drop for Kate Stewart who obviously as the head of
18:38unit has made sure that Wilf is comfortable. So that's lovely to have that little connection and
18:43obviously the mention of Kate Stewart there as well. Number 12. Something else I noticed in this
18:47scene and in the previous scene in the kitchen. There are loads of drawings, like kids drawings
18:53on the walls. Some are framed, some are just on the walls. Presumably drawings that Rose has done
18:58throughout her childhood. I do not think for a second that these pictures don't mean something.
19:04I tried so hard to zoom in on as many of them as I could but the further you zoom in the harder,
19:09the more blurry they become and it's quite hard to determine what they actually are. But we did
19:12notice one on the wall by the fridge was of a pig and myself and Danny instantly go space pig and we
19:17obviously know about these memories so it would seem I would suggest that these these drawings
19:23again are the Metacrisis memories seeping through in an artistic form through Rose. We've also got
19:29one on the wall in the living room which looks like a green monster stood against some sort of
19:35London thing so could that be Slythene and Downing Street potentially? Like I said they're very very
19:39hard to make out but I feel like they are that clever and that sneaky and that love to go that
19:47give that much attention to detail that I think these drawings are all easter eggs in their own
19:51right even if I can't figure out what they all are actually of. If anyone else can figure out what any
19:55of the drawings are references to then please let me know because I've been trying really hard but
19:59they're just too blurry to figure out. Number 11. So they're all running away, get up the stairs,
20:03they're in the loft and the doctor has his sonic screwdriver and he says it's really good at
20:07resonating concrete. If you recall in The Doctor Dances the doctor is trying to resonate concrete,
20:13this is the ninth doctor and he's not having very good success with it. It would seem that
20:17the sonic screwdriver has learned since then and can now do that very easily although
20:23it is pointed out that that's not actually concrete so potentially it still can't do concrete.
20:29Number 10. So after we've had the little escape-a-roo when we get in the taxi and we then
20:34suddenly become a courtroom drama and the doctor pulls out a barrister's wig from his pocket and
20:39puts it on his head to hold the trial between the Rarth. I know it's the Roth but I can't not do the
20:46Rarth so that's what they will forever be to me. The fourth doctor did this exact same thing and
20:52you know potentially in universe with the exact same wig in the 1978 serial The Stones of Blood
20:58so that was a good little callback there as well. Number 9. So during this trial the doctor invokes
21:03shadow proclamation protocols 15 P and 6. Now as we know the shadow proclamation is basically
21:10outer space police, that's how the doctor refers to them in series four and we did see an exterior
21:16shot of the shadow proclamation in that opening recap from Stolen Earth as well. So then we're
21:21going to jump and we're going to jump into the ship where we have the doctor and Donna inside
21:27the Rarth ship. Meep is trying to escape and the doctor is trying to to stop the destruction of
21:33London and Meep initiates a deadlock seal and the sonic screwdriver kind of sparks and suddenly
21:39they can't solve the problem that way anymore and it's a running theme throughout Doctor Who that
21:42the sonic screwdriver struggles with a deadlock seal. If it's deadlock sealed, we can't get past
21:47that so that was quite nice to see. Deadlock seal, sonic's useless now, it can make shields but as
21:52soon as there's a deadlock seal, we're out. Number 7. So then we have the doctor awakening
21:59the Doctor Donna inside Donna's head. The final trigger word in that series of words is the word
22:05binary. Now this is clearly a callback to the moment in Journey's End where Donna is struggling
22:10to keep control with the Metacrisis inside her head and she goes binary, binary, binary, binary,
22:15binary. So obviously binary is a very important word. In both instances that word means to the
22:19doctor, uh trouble, Donna's head's going to explode but obviously in series four he solves
22:23the problem and here he's doing it on purpose to wake up the Doctor Donna. Those trigger words,
22:28there must be a meaning to them but we have studied them for quite some time and for the
22:34life of us we cannot figure out what that meaning is. At some point it will become glaringly obvious
22:39and we'll all know what they mean. Right now, not a clue. The only one that I can see significance to
22:44at the moment is obviously sparrow which could be a reference to Sally Sparrow and the fact that
22:49that word is in there is what makes me think that the rest of them must have some significance as
22:53well. If anyone's figured it out, let us know. Number 6. So once we have the Doctor Donna in
22:57full force and full swing pressing buttons and reeling off Technobabble, we then have the iconic
23:03oh yes which we saw Donna say and the Metacrisis Doctor say as well in Journey's End when they're
23:09all solving the problem and saving the day and destroying the Daleks. Number 5. So just before
23:13the Meep is escorted off world by by the Rarth, Rarth, the Rarth, Meep mentions the boss. Now I
23:21think we all initially assumed that the boss would be the Toymaker but if you watch the InVision
23:26commentary for the Starbeast, David Tennant says that he doesn't actually know what that line means
23:31and producer Vicky Dello said, you'll get to find out with all the viewers. In other words, it feels
23:36like this is going to be a thread that continues beyond David Tennant and perhaps is significant
23:42to Shruti Gatwa, Gatwa's 15th Doctor. So it could be Jinx Monsoon, it could be Jonathan Groff, it
23:47could be Indira Varma who has been cast as a character called the Duchess or it could be
23:52none of those. But it seems like the boss, although we initially assumed would be the
23:57Toymaker in a couple of episodes time, might actually be a more important through line that's
24:02going to continue past these three episodes. So I guess we'll find out. Just as a side note as well,
24:07we just mentioned the Toymaker there. A lot of people have pointed out the fact that
24:12Rose makes all these toys and so essentially Rose is a Toymaker and whether there's some
24:16significance to the fact that we know the Toymaker will be appearing in The Giggle
24:21and Rose has become a Toymaker of sorts and whether there's going to be some weird connection
24:26there. Number four. So everything's solved, we're all good and we're now outside the TARDIS
24:30and Donna and the Doctor decide that they're going to go and see Wolf and as they enter the TARDIS,
24:34what does Donna say? Come on, Spaceman. Donna called the Doctor Spaceman quite a few times
24:39in series four. I would say most notably in the kind of banter off between the Metacrisis Doctor
24:45and Donna. She says, oi, watch it, Spaceman and he says, oi, watch it, Earth Girl. So yes, Spaceman.
24:51Number three. So they enter the TARDIS and what does David Tennant do? I don't know whether this
24:56was a stylistic choice, whether this was muscle memory. Soon as he walks in, takes off his coat,
25:00throws it over the railing, which is something that the Tense Doctor did all of the time,
25:05even though there was a coat rack right there. Still threw it just over the side of a railing
25:11or one of those weird kind of, what were those things even called? The kind of tree things that
25:15were inside his original TARDIS. But it was just really lovely to see. It just felt so familiar.
25:20Honestly, it felt like David Tennant had never been away watching this entire episode. It just
25:24made me feel warm and fuzzy. Number two. So then everything seems like it's going fine,
25:28but obviously it's not fine and we end up with the TARDIS on fire and exploding and blowing up. Now,
25:33this happens quite often in Doctor Who and both Donna and the Doctor have both been inside the
25:37TARDIS at some point when it's been sparking and exploding. So most notably, I would say the
25:42situation where the Metacrisis Doctor is born, when Donna is inside the TARDIS when the Daleks
25:47dispose of it and it's all blowing up and sparks and everything's crashing around them. The Tense
25:51Doctor's regeneration completely destroyed the TARDIS and I literally said as this was happening
25:56in the episode, what is it with David Tennant's Doctors and blowing up his TARDISes? And number
26:00one, obviously the reason for the TARDIS blowing up is because Donna threw coffee on the console.
26:05What is quite funny though is the contrast between what tea does to the TARDIS and what
26:09coffee does because if you recall in The Christmas Invasion, the Doctor is unconscious and what wakes
26:15him up? Spilt cup of tea in the TARDIS. Tea, the TARDIS likes. Wakes the Doctor up, saves the day.
26:21Coffee instantly blows up. I think that maybe is just a commentary on the TARDISes preferences over
26:26tea and coffee, don't you? Make sure that you go and check out our ups and downs review of the
26:31episode and let us know what you thought of the episode in the comments of that video and of any
26:36easter eggs that you think we missed in the comments of this one. In the meantime, I've
26:40been Ellie with Who Culture and in the words of River Song herself, goodbye sweeties.
