00:00Every time you die we learn something new and humanity moves forward.
00:04Welcome to WatchMojo and today we're looking at movies that have cinephiles the most excited
00:09for 2025. Keep in mind some of these release dates are subject to change.
00:14It's Megan 2.0. Work it out mother.
00:19Number 20. Captain America Brave New World. Release date February 14th 2025.
00:25You asked for me. Here I am.
00:30It feels like we're entering a new world in 2025.
00:33Captain America may be the hero audiences need right now. Sam Wilson picks up the
00:37Star-Spangled Shield, but he's not the only one adjusting to a new role.
00:41Taking over for the late William Hurt, Harrison Ford plays General Thaddeus Ross.
00:46Make that President Ross since the White House just got a new resident.
00:49You can't take the soldier out of the politician.
00:52As Ross ushers in a war-torn era with Sam caught in the middle.
00:56It's red, white, and blue versus Red Hulk. Although the action isn't the only thing
01:00Brave New World has going for it. The advertising promises a conspiracy
01:04thriller that may harken back to Sam's debut in The Winter Soldier.
01:07So the real question is how did the two most wanted people in Washington
01:11kidnap a shield officer in broad daylight?
01:14The answer is you don't.
01:16What's this?
01:17Call it a resume.
01:1919. Sinners
01:20Release date, March 7, 2025.
01:26Hey, brother. Be careful. I will.
01:30Given his success with Creed and Black Panther,
01:33Hollywood owes Ryan Coogler a blank check to produce an original project.
01:37Coogler ultimately received $90 million to write and direct Sinners,
01:41which re-teams him with Michael B. Jordan.
01:43We're getting double the Jordan, as the actor plays twin brothers Elijah and Elias.
01:48While the casting may sound familiar, Sinners is new territory for Coogler,
01:53who helms his first horror film. The threat appears to be supernatural, perhaps even demonic.
01:59The trailers for Sinners have otherwise kept its plot hidden in the shadows.
02:03That's the way we like it. We have a feeling this is a film you want to go in with as little
02:08information as possible, especially since the talent involved is more than enough to hook us in.
02:13I ain't ever seen no demons, no ghosts, no magic.
02:26Till now.
02:2718. Eddington
02:29Release date, to be announced, 2025.
02:32If the last time you were thirsty, you went to a well and the water made you sick,
02:37are you gonna go back to that specific well expecting it to be safe?
02:40Ari Aster tackled psychological horror in Hereditary,
02:44folk horror in Midsommar, and surreal horror in Bo is Afraid.
02:48His latest film, Eddington, is billed as a modern western with a dark comedic edge.
02:53Rumors suggest the film will occur during the pandemic and could even involve zombies.
02:58Wherever Eddington falls under the horror umbrella, Aster isn't straying too far from
03:02his comfort zone, again working with Joaquin Phoenix as a New Mexico sheriff who believes
03:07he's destined for more. Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, and Austin Butler round out a supporting cast in
03:13a small-town story where things turn grim after sunset. It sounds unlike anything Aster's done
03:18before, but then again, he never makes the same movie twice.
03:22Lots of pageantry and special ceremonies and dressing up.
03:25That sounds fun.
03:2617. Tron Ares
03:29Release date, October 10, 2025.
03:31Since its debut in 1982, Tron has never been as big as Disney likely hoped. The film's cult
03:43following persisted, though, paving the way for Tron Legacy in 2010. While another sequel was
03:49considered, Disney ultimately rebooted the franchise with Tron Ares. The film isn't
03:53completely abandoning its roots with Jeff Bridges' Kevin Flynn appearing. Similar to The Force
03:58Awakens, Tron Ares is expected to be a passing of the torch with Jared Leto, Evan Peters,
04:03and Greta Lee leading the cast. Considering how much AI has evolved in the past 15 years,
04:09the film's story of a digital being entering our world should carry newfound relevance.
04:14Daft Punk will be missed, but we're counting on Nine Inch Nails to produce a banger score.
04:19Look what you've accomplished. It's incredible.
04:2316. F1
04:25Release date, June 27, 2025.
04:28We need to build our car for combat.
04:32How am I supposed to make that safe?
04:34Who said anything about safe?
04:35In Top Gun Maverick, director Joseph Kaczynski and cinematographer Claudio Miranda made audiences
04:40feel like they were up in the air alongside Tom Cruise. They could pull off a similar feat with
04:45F1, putting the viewer behind the wheel with Brad Pitt. Adding to the thrill, Pitt reportedly did
04:50his own driving in the film. Granted, in an F2 vehicle that was altered to look like an F1 car,
04:56but still cool. Visual tricks aside, the film is striving for authenticity,
05:01even featuring several real-life Formula One drivers. With Jerry Bruckheimer producing,
05:06F1 seems to be the racing movie he tried to make 35 years ago with Days of Thunder,
05:10which also coincidentally starred Tom Cruise. Where that film crashed, F1 may burn rubber.
05:2515. Elio
05:27Release date, June 13, 2025.
05:30Please state the name of your homeworld.
05:33Earth.
05:33Welcome, leader of Earth.
05:36Be it due to bad advertising or a questionable straight-to-streaming model,
05:43Disney has mishandled the distribution of several recent Pixar movies.
05:47Sequels like Inside Out 2 still print money, but Elio could determine how many original projects
05:53we'll see from Pixar in the coming years. Centered on a lonely boy who unwittingly becomes Earth's
05:58ambassador to a group of extraterrestrial beings, the premise offers plenty of comedic possibilities.
06:03There's also an opportunity to explore profound questions about humanity and life beyond the
06:08stars. Initially set to be directed by Adrian Molina of Coco, Turning Red's Domi Shee and
06:13Burrow's Madeline Sharafian took over the production in 2024. If it's anything like
06:18their past works, Elio should be another Pixar film that reaches for the stars.
06:23I think there's been a mistake.
06:24You're not the leader of Earth.
06:26Sorry for the mix-up.
06:28Commence memory wipe.
06:2914. 28 Years Later
06:32Release date, June 20th, 2025.
06:36Wait, sit here.
06:37Auntie, what's going on?
06:39Demi, sit still, keep quiet, and do not move from this spot.
06:42For nearly 18 years, we've asked, when are we gonna get 28 months later?
06:46Well, probably never since the third movie is called 28 Years Later.
06:50We're just ecstatic that Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are revisiting the zombie
06:53franchise that changed everything. The behind-the-scenes talent are not the only ones coming back.
06:58Cillian Murphy reprises his role for the first time since 2002.
07:02Back then, the idea of a zombie apocalypse seemed far-fetched.
07:06In a post-pandemic world, empty cities and deadly infections no longer feel like a what-if scenario.
07:13Now is as good a time as any for 28 Years Later,
07:16which already has another sequel in the works entitled The Bone Temple.
07:20Yeah, we wish it was called 28 Decades Later, too.
07:23There's no discharge in the war.
07:37Need we say more?
07:38His latest film shot under the production title BC Project,
07:42with DiCaprio playing Zoid Wheeler, an ex-hippie running from the law.
07:46How about Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, Sean Penn, Alana Haim, and Benicio del Toro?
07:52Still not sold?
07:53We're honestly running out of things to say about this crime thriller,
07:56which has kept its plot under wraps.
07:58Rumors suggest that the 1990 novel Vineland was an inspiration.
08:02Yet even the title, The Battle of Bactan Cross, isn't necessarily set in stone.
08:06When it comes to Anderson, though, the less we know, the better. We want to be surprised.
08:11The film has been described as Anderson's, quote,
08:14"...most commercial work," which is reflected in a budget exceeding $100 million.
08:19By far the biggest budget the director has ever received.
08:22We know PTA is worth three figures.
08:31Number 12, Frankenstein.
08:33Release date, to be announced 2025.
08:49Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, directed by Guillermo del Toro.
08:53That sounds about right.
08:54We're surprised such an adaptation has taken this long to happen.
08:58It's not like it was due to a lack of trying.
09:00Del Toro has expressed interest in doing a Frankenstein movie for years,
09:03although the pieces never fell into place as other projects captured his attention.
09:08One of those passion projects was his version of Pinocchio.
09:11With that stop-motion film going on to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature,
09:15Netflix didn't hesitate to greenlight del Toro's Frankenstein.
09:18Like Pinocchio, Frankenstein is a story we've heard before,
09:22but del Toro is interested in exploring aspects of Shelley's novel that other adaptations omitted.
09:27After years in development hell, it's alive!
09:38Number 11, Thunderbolts.
09:40Release date, May 2nd, 2025.
09:48It's funny, for years we wondered when Natasha Romanoff would get her own movie.
09:58Then, when she finally did, the consensus was,
10:00it was fine, but when is Yelena Belova getting a movie?
10:03Yelena leads this ensemble, which includes other anti-hero slash
10:07reformed villains like Bucky Barnes, John Walker, Red Guardian, Taskmaster, and Ghost.
10:12Oh, and Bob.
10:13Can't forget Bob, who we're guessing is going to be Sentry.
10:17Valentina Allegra de Fontaine is also in play,
10:19as this band of lost souls is recruited to carry out government missions too dangerous for others.
10:25So, that's it?
10:26What, there's some kind of Thunderbolts?
10:28Yeah, you knew we were going there,
10:29but we have faith this team-up will be less like Suicide Squad and closer to THE Suicide Squad.
10:40Number 10, Wicked Part 2.
10:42Release date, November 21st, 2025.
10:45What is this feeling so sudden and new?
10:48I felt the moment I laid eyes on you.
10:51We'll admit that when news broke that Wicked would be a two-part adaptation,
10:55we cried, cash grab.
10:57While it might have been financially motivated, at least at an executive level,
11:01we think it was the right choice having seen Part 1.
11:03The 2024 hit expanded upon the Broadway sensation,
11:06taking the character development and worldbuilding to even greater heights.
11:10Leaving us on a high note with Defying Gravity, director John M. Chu earned our trust.
11:15Coinciding with Dorothy's arrival in Oz,
11:18Part 2 will keep the focus on Elphaba and Glinda as their friendship is tested.
11:22Some Broadway elitists may say Act 2 of Wicked isn't as strong as Act 1.
11:27With new songs and dynamics being added though,
11:30this sequel might change your opinion for good.
11:34You're green.
11:37I am.
11:38Number 9, The Smashing Machine.
11:40Release date, to be announced 2025.
11:43I think you're better than me.
11:45I am better than you.
11:46We love Dwayne Johnson, even if his movies haven't always blown us away.
11:50Of course, director Benny Safdie is gaining a reputation for pushing actors to new,
11:55exciting, often stressful places.
11:57Safdie's collaborations with his brother Josh resulted in career best performances
12:01from Robert Pattinson and Adam Sandler.
12:04Safdie may do the same for Johnson in The Smashing Machine.
12:07Playing mixed martial artist Mark Kerr might not seem like a stretch considering
12:11Johnson's wrestling background.
12:12Given Kerr's history of substance use though,
12:15this A24 biopic could push Johnson to dramatic depths we've rarely seen.
12:20Emily Blunt has described her co-star as quote,
12:22unrecognizable in the film,
12:24making us wonder if we'll get to call him Oscar nominee Dwayne Johnson
12:27before inevitably calling him President Johnson.
12:29I respect you.
12:30I respect your passion.
12:32Okay, I always have.
12:34Number 8, The Running Man.
12:35Release date, November 21st, 2025.
12:38Come on, give it a try.
12:39You can do it.
12:40What do you think?
12:42Okay, I think the next kill will be made by Van Richards.
12:49Any Schwarzenegger fan surely has a soft spot for 1987's The Running Man.
12:54Readers, meanwhile, have waited decades for a more faithful adaptation of Stephen King's novel,
12:58which coincidentally took place in the dystopian year of 2025.
13:03King was ahead of the curve with his commentary on reality TV,
13:06America's declining economy,
13:08and a society growing more prone to violence.
13:11The timing could not be more perfect for another Running Man adaptation.
13:15The only thing more promising than the source material is the talent involved.
13:19Director Edgar Wright doesn't have a miss in his filmography,
13:23and Glenn Powell is on the cusp of being a bona fide movie star.
13:26We'll be running to the theater,
13:28especially if we need an escape from the harsh realities of 2025.
13:33I live to see you eat that contract,
13:35but I hope you leave enough room for my fist
13:37because I'm going to ram it into your stomach and break your goddamn spine!
13:42Number 7.
13:43Wake Up, Dead Man! A Knives Out Mystery.
13:46Release date, to be announced 2025.
13:48You know a crime has been committed by Miss Carrera.
13:51You need her to be called for it.
13:52You cannot reveal how you know.
13:57Enter, Benoit Blanc.
13:59Knives Out was a breath of fresh air for murder mystery fans.
14:02The sequel should not have been able to recapture the same spark.
14:06For many, Glass Onion somehow surpassed its predecessor,
14:09remaining faithful to the original tone while going in a different direction.
14:13We're not sure how lightning can strike three times in a franchise dependent on
14:17staying several steps ahead of us.
14:19Writer-director Rian Johnson is known for subverting expectations, however.
14:23We should expect the unexpected, but we're guaranteed to see Daniel Craig's
14:27Benoit Blanc lead another all-star ensemble including Glenn Close,
14:31Josh Brolin, and Mila Kunis, among others.
14:34If there's one Netflix movie we'd love to see on the big screen this year,
14:37it's Wake Up, Dead Man.
14:38I know, legit, right? But look at your face, it was worth it.
14:42Oh, my friends, my friends, all my old friends.
14:46Are we allowed to hug after the whole Men in Black thing?
14:48We can hug.
14:49Oh, God, look at it!
14:51Number 6.
14:52From the World of John Wick, Ballerina.
14:54Release date, June 6th, 2025.
14:57Eve Maccaro of the Ruscaroma.
15:01What a pleasure to see you again.
15:04The John Wick franchise has some of the best world-building in modern action
15:07without ever over-explaining how the secret society works.
15:11While John himself is in a league of his own,
15:13any of the figures he's crossed paths with could have their own movie.
15:17In addition to Keanu Reeves, we can expect to see a few familiar faces in Ballerina,
15:21including Angelica Houston, Ian McShane, and the late Lance Reddick in his final role.
15:26The stage belongs to Ana de Armas, though, as Eve Maccaro,
15:30a dancer-slash-assassin ready to paint her shoes red.
15:34Set between the third and fourth John Wick movies,
15:36Eve's mission to avenge her father should serve as a reminder that
15:39fight choreography and dance choreography are closer than we assume.
15:43You're him.
15:47The one they called the Baba Yaga.
15:49Number 5.
15:50Superman.
15:51Release date, July 11th, 2025.
15:54Why are you here?
15:55There must be a reason for you to be here.
15:56Yes, I'm here to fight for truth and justice in the American way.
15:59The DCEU certainly had its highs,
16:02but even going back to the earliest lows like Batman v Superman, a reboot seemed faded.
16:07As James Gunn had a falling out with Marvel, the time seemed appropriate to start fresh.
16:12Gunn kicks off the DC Universe's theatrical output with Superman.
16:15Although he may be the most iconic and important DC hero,
16:19Superman isn't the easiest character to adapt.
16:22Ideally, this version could combine the optimism and gravitas of the original Christopher Reeves
16:27movies with the more grounded edge Zack Snyder brought to the table.
16:30Above all else, we hope this is a genuine James Gunn production,
16:35complete with his signature wit, inventiveness, and eye for comic book action.
16:39Krypto's presence in the movie is a good sign.
16:42You will give the people of Earth an ideal to strive towards.
16:47They will race behind you.
16:49They will stumble.
16:51They will fall.
16:52But in time, they will join you when the sun comes.
17:03So congratulations, you unveiled the title of Avatar.
17:07It's only a big deal because we didn't have a title.
17:09We only didn't have a title because I couldn't make up my damn mind.
17:12Avatar The Way of Water was the sequel we never thought we'd see,
17:16and despite more than a decade of skepticism, it actually lived up to the hype.
17:20Thankfully, we don't have to wait as long for the third installment, Fire and Ash.
17:24As the title suggests, this story will introduce the Ash people,
17:28revealing the fiery side of the Na'vi.
17:30We don't just mean that in an elemental sense.
17:33While humans have primarily been the antagonists,
17:36James Cameron has teased a clash between the Na'vi.
17:38The fire potentially refers to a blowout, while the ash symbolizes the fallout.
17:43Will it all burn to the ground, or could something else rise from the ashes?
17:47With two more sequels planned, we're guessing the latter.
17:50The title is Fire and Ash, which has meaning when you see the film.
17:54Number three, Mickey 17.
17:56Release date, April 18th, 2025.
17:59I'm sure you're used to it by now, but what's it feel like to die?
18:04Even on my 17th go-around, I hate dying.
18:07Bong Joon-ho has been gripping South Korean audiences and cinephiles worldwide for decades.
18:12If you didn't know his name before 2020, you did after Parasite won the Oscar for Best Picture.
18:18While Bong has made a few English-language movies,
18:21Mickey 17 is unlike anything else in his filmography — an adaptation of a popular
18:26sci-fi book with a $150 million budget and a major Hollywood distributor in Warner Bros.
18:32For anyone worried the studio system might get in the way,
18:35you'll be happy to know that Bong was granted final cut.
18:38Those who read Mickey 7 can expect some changes, including the title.
18:42Given Bong's track record, though, we say let the man cook.
18:46Also, we are loving this unpredictable phase of Robert Pattinson's career.
18:50I wouldn't be surprised if you're thinking at this point, what have I done?
18:54Number two, The Fantastic Four First Steps.
18:57Release date, July 25th, 2025.
19:00Wanda, stop.
19:02You've possessed an innocent woman, but you can still do the right thing.
19:06Let her go.
19:07When Disney entered negotiations to purchase 21st Century Fox,
19:10two questions lingered above all others.
19:13When will the X-Men join the MCU, and will we finally get a watchable Fantastic Four movie?
19:19While the mutants have slowly entered the fold,
19:21The Fantastic Four will take their first steps in this semi-period piece.
19:25The casting sounds fantastic, with Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm,
19:31Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Eben Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm.
19:35The ensemble also includes Ralph Einson's Galactus and Julia Garner's Silver Surfer.
19:39However, we're curious if the film could set up Doctor Doom.
19:43Marking Robert Downey Jr.'s return, it'll not only set a tone for future Fantastic Four movies,
19:48but the MCU's sixth phase and beyond.
19:51I have children of my own. I understand your pain.
19:54Is their mother still alive?
19:58Yes.
19:59Good. There will be someone left to raise them.

20:19Number 1. Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning
20:22Release Date – May 23, 2025
20:25When the need for certainty is absolute and the odds are deemed impossible,
20:31the mission falls to him.
20:33Should he choose to accept?
20:35The eighth Mission Impossible ties up the loose ends from Dead Reckoning,
20:38but will it truly be the final reckoning for Ethan Hunt?
20:41Tom Cruise has noted that the title could be misleading like Indiana Jones and The Last
20:46Crusade. For all we know, Cruise may keep risking his life for our viewing pleasure until he's 90.
20:51Whether or not this is truly the end of an era, The Final Reckoning looks like the culmination
20:55of an action franchise that's been going strong on the silver screen for nearly three decades.
21:00This mission should push Hunt's team to new limits and deeper depths — literally,
21:04in the latter's case, with the submarine setup already having us holding our breath.
21:08Say no more! We accept!
21:10I need you to trust me one last time.
