00:00If you guys don't know, I'm actually a crime and security science student in London.
00:06I'm in my second year, I don't know how I'm coping, but you know.
00:16Hi again, this is Kat Rochon. This is episode three right now.
00:21Thank you so much for tuning in and listening. Again, I really appreciate you.
00:31So he lives in Burbank, which is North LA.
00:35And I was in Idyll, which is three hours away from LA.
00:38So for the recording process, I basically, during the weekends when I had no classes every time,
00:45I had to travel all the way down the windy hill to Burbank,
00:49which was nice just to see the scenery, you know.
00:53But the first time I had a session with him, it was really cool.
00:57But the first time I had a session with him, it was really, really intimate,
01:02really like quick because he knew what I wanted.
01:07And the first song that I recorded with him was called I Miss London,
01:12which is like I miss London because I used to go there every year for a holiday just to see my aunt as well.
01:22And he's from England as well.
01:25So basically, like he he kind of got the gist of like, it's very like nostalgic song.
01:31I want to include the birds to the birds chirping to reminisce on Hyde Park and Hyde Park.
01:42Yeah, but it was the recording just took three hours.
01:47Honestly, it was really fast.
01:56So how I ended up performing there was Mr. Ong, who is my mentor as well.
02:06He and he actually specifically chose me and Mir Nash to perform in China.
02:13I don't know why he chose me. I'm very grateful, though.
02:17But yeah, it was a kind of like last minute thing.
02:20I was still in uni at the time.
02:22And he just went, you're going to China to perform.
02:25And I Ching, which is because of love, was very spontaneous.
02:32But I was yeah, I was just very grateful.
02:35And Mir, who I had never met before, we just kind of rocked up on the day and was like, here we are.
02:43We're performing together. We have to get on this flight.
02:46I don't know you, but we're going to try and break the ice.
02:49And he's like, yeah, he's just he's like a big brother to me.
02:53I've never been to China and I know I'm Chinese.
02:56So that was quite eye opening.
02:58Like the fans there go crazy, like different level, kind of crazy in a good way.
03:06But it really like helped me understand maybe like where my ancestors came from.
03:12I got to try really cool food.
03:14And there's this really long noodle I tried.
03:16It just I had to stand up to even like measure the length of a noodle, which is so good.
03:23But I felt very proud to be like representing Malaysia because Malaysia is small.
03:33Honestly, like as a country compared to other countries.
03:38And not a lot of people specifically know where Malaysia is.
03:42If you're not from Southeast Asia, you're not like Asia.
03:47So it was like it was I was honored to just kind of put Malaysia on that global scale on the map.
03:56So again, I met through I met Mr. Park through Mr. Ong somehow as a connection.
04:12And he was playing me demos.
04:14And there was this cool song that just had this cool R&B like dance beat to it, which is going crazy well.
04:20And it was all in Korean, but I really like the vibe of the production.
04:25So I was like, why don't we do like an English version, but also collab with like one of your artists that you have signed.
04:36So like Soo Jin, who is under MOT, Mr. Park's company.
04:42So I flew to Korea to record this song because I was like, I've never been to Korea.
04:47Might as well I go and explore.
04:50And it was, yeah, it was really cool because Mr. Park works like he knows what he's doing.
04:57So he's like clicking, clicking, clicking.
04:58And I was just in the studio.
05:01I was like, OK, I'll follow his lead.
05:03Like you just tell me what to do.
05:05I will try my very best to like convey what you want me to convey.
05:12But also the language barrier was quite hard between us just because Mr. Park wasn't quite fluent in English.
05:19But through his actions and just like he really tried his very best and put so much effort into trying to help me understand what he wanted.
05:28So, yeah, I'm very grateful to Mr. Park.
05:32And his English has improved.
05:33So I applaud it.
05:43Oh, music, obviously, like I would love to venture into the EDM genre, different other genres that I have the chance to collab with much more.
05:56I'm sorry, many more. Grammatically wrong.
05:59Many more local artists, but also international artists try and break into the UK market or the US market even more.
06:11Personally, if you guys don't know, I'm actually a crime and security science student in London.
06:18I'm in my second year.
06:20I don't know how I'm coping, but, you know, I would maybe try and also go into more of the law enforcement side.
06:30So I'm currently doing an internship with the Police Foundation, which reviews the policies of the police in London and England.
06:40So maybe just venturing into that even more would be kind of cool.
06:45Just having like a double life, even be a spy, honestly, if I had the chance or work in the Malaysian police, who knows?
06:52Like, so you guys better watch out, you know.
07:01Well, the balancing part, I just have to try and cramp everything into one day.
07:10Like I go to uni, honestly, like my my friends get me through the course and all my assignments I have to do.
07:18But let's say like I know my priority.
07:21So while I'm in London, I try and prioritize my studies first.
07:28And then when I come back to KL, it's solely on music.
07:32And if I do have an assignment I have to do, I'll just do it when I have free time.
07:37But even learning, like I'm quite intrigued.
07:43That's why I started criminology.
07:44I'm intrigued to understand like the darker side of humanity and why people commit such crimes.
07:52You know, just like why they do it and what's what's going on in their brains.
07:57So that has actually also had an influence on my music a bit where my lyrics are a bit more matured and darker.
08:10Not darker in that sense where it's like, I want to die kind of thing, but like more like the ambience of it.
08:20But also in the way that I am brought up and the way people perceive me, just I don't want to give too much away.
08:33Like if I say I'm doing this, this, this and that, and I'm this, this and that, you'll be like, I'm bored because, you know, you have nothing new to learn about me.
08:42So I try and keep that mysterious facade just so that you guys are more like, oh, like who is she kind of thing.
09:01Don't be scared to get out there.
09:05Just be you, honestly, and yeah, just grasp as many opportunities as you can.
09:11As I've let go a few in the past that I wish I took.
09:17Those missed opportunities can lead you to a lot of different places and other opportunities.
09:25So, yeah, to my younger self, just be you.
09:30Thank you for listening to episode three.
09:33Again, I just want to give you a virtual hug, even though I can't be face to face with you.
09:38If you want to hear more of my stuff and follow my journey, you can search me up at Katrina.Roshan, K-A-T-R-I-N-A dot R-O-S-H-A-N on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.
09:52I post like a lot of stuff on there.
09:55And yeah, stream I'm a Rebel.
09:57That's like my latest release.
09:58So, yeah, it's a cool song.
10:00And you guys can be rebels in a positive way, not a negative way, because we don't like that.
