Full Video: Feel like punishing yourself? || Acharya Prashant, with IIT Kharagpur (2022)
Transcript
00:00When I am not able to complete a task, I really feel that I didn't need to somehow punish
00:06myself.
00:07We call things as mistakes only to relieve ourselves of guilt.
00:12We say, oh, I didn't want to do it, it happened by mistake.
00:15It's not a mistake, it's a part of your normal algorithm.
00:20That's how you are.
00:21Why are you calling it a mistake?
00:23And if that's the way you are, irrespective of how much you punish or condemn yourself
00:27for that mistake, you'll continue making those so-called mistakes because you'll continue
00:33being yourself.
00:34You are the mistake.
00:36So the punishment is, do not remain who you are, otherwise the mistakes will remain as
00:41they are.
00:43Use your guilt to your advantage.
00:46When you really, sincerely feel guilty, then that guilt is transformational.
00:51Then that guilt catalyzes a deep change in yourself.
00:57And I think it's a matter of dishonesty if one keeps saying, oh, I'm guilty, I deserve
01:02punishment, this, that, and still does not change.
