00:00The biggest problem the NBA has right now is, some of their biggest stars are pushing 40.
00:05Some of their biggest stars are European guys who have no personality whatsoever and don't really want to get in front of a microphone and represent the league all that much.
00:14Like Jokic and Wembenyana and some of these other guys, you don't really hear too much from them.
00:19They're trying to market these stars, but it's hard to in some cases.
00:22Luka is a different kid. Luka, I feel like, has a little bit more Q rating, I'd say, than someone like Jokic, who's an unbelievable player.
00:29He's one of the best players of all time.
00:31Definitely.
00:32But you can't really market him, you know? You just can't.
00:34He doesn't talk. He doesn't really like basketball. He doesn't really want to be there.
00:37He just wants to go back and, you know, be with his horses or whatever it is.
00:40And I think some of that's a bit of a put-on.
00:42But when LeBron James, Steph Curry, Kawhi Leonard, these guys are still all NBA players and they're still the faces of the league and they're aging out.
00:51And the next generation, this happens every, you know, decade or so.
00:54You kind of see the Jordan era end, the Bird and Magic era end, and they pass it off to the bad boys.
01:00And then the bad boys pass it off to Chicago.
01:02And then, you know, Shaq and Kobe come in after that.
01:04And there's always, like, a dead spot in between.
01:06And in the 90s, you definitely had that.
01:08In between, you know, the Bulls and the end of them in 97 until you got Shaq and Kobe in, like, 02 or 03.
01:14There was five or six years where it was Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady and, you know, saw these guys, Paul Pierre, whatever.
01:20And they're trying to make their way and establish themselves.
01:23And you're seeing that right now.
01:25And I think that, in part, it's the marketability of some of the stars.
01:29But the other part of it is there's a changing of the guard going on in the league right now.
01:33And that traditionally, historically, has always kind of been a dip in ratings when that happens.
01:38That's the way it's always been.
01:39Yeah, I think the changing of the guard is definitely part of it.
01:42I mean, I think there's layers to this.
01:44I absolutely think Jokic being who he is and where he is.
01:48I think West Coast bias, East Coast bias is an actual thing.
01:51And having some of your stars on the West Coast and your teams on the West Coast right now.
01:56Because the East, the Celtics are great.
01:58Tatum's a star.
01:59They're the defending champs.
02:01But Giannis was terrible.
02:03Well, his team was terrible to start the year.
02:05They underperformed.
02:06And Bede is toast in Philly.
02:09The Heat are not an elite team.
02:11The Knicks are a really good team.
02:12But I wouldn't say they have a marquee superstar kind of broad.
02:17Johnson's becoming that, but he's not there yet.
02:18But he's not there yet.
