00:0012 years of hard work finally paying off as the Taltrees Best and Brightest celebrate
00:08their success.
00:09It's incredible and so unexpected as well. I didn't check my results this morning at
00:13all. Going up on stage was the first time I heard about it so it's so surprising but
00:17such an incredible thing to find out.
00:20Sam Ricketts from Darwin's Essington School was the highest ranked in the Taltree with
00:26an ETA of 99.9.
00:30There was a lot of study and a lot of stress as well but I'm very thankful to have an amazing
00:33school supporting me. He really helped me get me through it and at the end it was a
00:37positive year 12 experience.
00:39Also recognised was the Taltrees top Indigenous student Ramona Dooley from Alice Springs.
00:46Last year at the academic assembly I don't think I got many awards so I was like oh and
00:50then I was like okay I'll lock in for next year and I tried really hard late last year
00:54and the start of this year so yeah that's pretty much what it was.
00:591,447 students received their NT Certificate of Education this year. 257 of them Indigenous.
01:07Of the top 20, 13 were from Darwin High School.
01:11Hard work trumps intelligence every time so that consistent approach to just giving everything
01:18their best shot for the whole year is what sees students get here tonight.
01:23The Taltrees graduates now looking to the future.
01:27I'd like to study at university. I honestly haven't decided yet. I'm thinking engineering
01:31but really it's pretty uncertain. I've got to go home and spend a few days thinking about
01:35that.
01:36I'm hoping I can work at a school either in like Colombia or Thailand just for about six
01:39months and then go to university after that in 2026.
01:44The road ahead full of opportunities.
