00:00There will always be imperfections in any movie, sometimes plot holes, loose ends or
00:05general issues with the story that don't quite make sense, and this is where the audience's
00:10disbelief needs to be appropriately suspended. This can be difficult, however, when a character
00:15just disappears without a trace. It happens more often than you think, but what about
00:20over the last five years?
00:22So let's dive in, as I'm Adam from WhatCulture and here are 8 Recent Movie Characters That
00:27Just Disappeared.
00:288. The Underminer – Incredibles 2
00:32There have been a handful of franchises within the realms of Pixar that have seen something
00:35of a revival after many, many years. Toy Story 3 came out 11 years after Toy Story 2, there
00:42were 12 and 13 years between Monsters Inc and Monsters U and Finding Nemo and Finding
00:47Dory respectively, and joining this list is The Incredibles.
00:51Fourteen years after the original movie cut short the titular family's fight with the
00:55Underminer, Incredibles 2 picked up exactly where the narrative left off. Tony Ridinger
01:00was in the custody of Rick Dicker and told of the fight that had ensued. In 2003, The
01:06Underminer only appeared at the end of The Incredibles after having nothing to do with
01:10the overall story. He was there as something of a tease for the family fighting together
01:14as a proper superhero team, and in a similar way, he was only involved in the sequel at
01:20the very start, again having nothing to do with the overall main story.
01:24The villain got away from The Incredibles at the start of the sequel, making off with
01:28immeasurable amounts of money, but because of the collateral damage and the supers in
01:32general, no one seemed to care. He was forgotten about, and no one was particularly interested
01:38in tracking him down or bringing him to justice.
01:44As a sequel to Rian Johnson's incredibly popular Knives Out from 2019, with the exception
01:49of Benoit Blanc, Glass Onion boasted a completely different cast. Marta Cabrera and the Thrombrys
01:55were replaced with Miles Braun and his Disruptor friends, though the deliciousness of the mystery
02:00remained throughout. Though Miles Braun himself was supposedly one of the world's smartest
02:05billionaires, he was in fact an idiot with enough money to pay intelligent people to
02:09earn his reputation for him. He then simply sat back and enjoyed his own private island
02:14and the Mona Lisa on hire without ever really breaking a sweat.
02:18One such thing his money paid for was seemingly a Hassle 3 Covid vaccination. The characters
02:23were all able to remove their masks and go about their daily lives as normal after a
02:28quick spray from Ethan Hawke's character, known simply in the credits as Efficient Man.
02:33Because it was an actor as big as Ethan Hawke, it was surprising that Efficient Man had no
02:37further role to play in the movie. He literally showed up, vaccinated everyone with no context
02:42as to exactly who he was, and then was never heard of or seen again.
02:48The Detachable Kid – The Suicide Squad The cast of The Suicide Squad was so ridiculous
02:53in size that it seemed impossible to fit everyone into one movie. It all made sense by the end
02:58of the first few scenes, however, when half of the titular team were gunned down on Corto
03:02Maltese. The likes of Captain Boomerang, Blackguard, Savant and more bit the dust, serving as a
03:09distraction to allow Bloodsport's true Task Force X onto the island. It seemed as though
03:14Weasel died during the chaotic opening, but the post-credits scene saw him simply get
03:19up and walk away. But what about the Detachable Kid, aka TDK? Nathan Fillion's character
03:25may have had a crap power and a crap way of using it, but he actually didn't die on
03:29that beach like most of the team did. While slapping and pawing at the Corto Maltese soldiers,
03:35TDK's arms were shot to hell, leaving him writhing in pain on the floor. However, the
03:40opening credits sequence that followed confirmed that TDK wasn't actually dead, but was instead
03:46in critical condition. So what happened to him? Was he ever extracted off the beach or
03:51was he left there to die by the heartless and ruthless Amanda Waller? Weasel survived
03:56and will reprise his role in Creature Commandos, so did James Gunn keep TDK alive with the
04:01intention of bringing him back?
04:045. Kingo Eternals This entry is slightly different from the
04:08rest in that the character at least announced that he was disappearing. While everyone else
04:13just went without so much as a goodbye, Kingo actually let everyone know what he was doing,
04:18and even returned to the screen before the end of Eternals. All that being said, however,
04:23he undoubtedly still disappeared, and at a key point in the movie. Icarus had been revealed
04:28as the villain, and he and Sprite were about to go toe-to-toe with the rest of the Eternals.
04:33Whether Tiamut's emergence happened or not directly affected the future of the entire
04:37human race, and yet Kingo decided to take a step back. The rest of the Eternals were
04:43his brothers and sisters, and though it's admirable in a way to remain neutral in such
04:47a situation, did anyone actually believe that, as a major character, he would manage to stay
04:52out of it entirely? Kingo was nowhere to be seen for the entire final battle. Realistically,
04:58he may as well have gotten involved, as he still ended up at the mercy of Arishem next
05:03to Cersei and Fastos anyway.
05:054. Mike, Sing 2 Sing is a genuinely enjoyable kids' film,
05:10even in spite of its singing competition premise, with a stunning cast to boot. Alongside the
05:15phenomenal voices of Reese Witherspoon, Taron Egerton, Scarlett Johansson and more, was
05:20Seth MacFarlane. The Family Guy creator's character, Mike, was a tiny mouse with one
05:25hell of a voice, but an attitude that got him in trouble on more than one occasion.
05:30When The Little Guy didn't appear or even get a mention in 2021's Sing 2, there was
05:35a theory equal parts dark and compelling. Mike likely would never have returned to be
05:40in Buster's new show anyway, as he was solely there for the money, but could it be that
05:44he was completely absent from the second movie because he had been killed by the bears who
05:49were chasing him? The big grizzly hanging off the back of Mike's car is the last we
05:53see of him after all.
05:55Harder to explain is the absence of both Pete and Eddie, who were present at the reopening
05:59of the New Moon Theatre at the end of Sing, and the three bunnies at the start of Sing
06:032 that were clearly part of the production, but had absolutely nothing to do with the
06:07excursion to Red Shore City or the new show at the Majestic.
06:113. The Fourth Skrull – Captain Marvel In 2019, Captain Marvel introduced to the
06:17MCU not only Carol Danvers herself, Maria and Monica Rambeau and the mind-boggling Flerken,
06:24it also brought to life for the first time the Skrulls. Even better, the movie actually
06:28did a fantastic job of portraying the race as the villains of the piece, before pulling
06:33the rug from under audiences with a genuinely shocking revelation.
06:37Back when everyone thought they were evil invading aliens, there were four Skrulls that
06:41landed on Earth. They each shifted into the shape of someone on that beach, but not all
06:46four are to be accounted for by the time the credits rolled. There was of course Talos,
06:51his science guy Norex who was killed by Yon-Rogg, and the Skrull posing as Agent Coulson who
06:56died in Nick Fury's car.
06:58Now for anyone keeping count, you won't be shocked to learn that we are still one
07:02slippery Skrull short. It could be that Norex was the alien that morphed into the old woman
07:07that Carol fought on the bus, in which case, what happened to the fourth Skrull? If Norex
07:13wasn't the alien that morphed into the old woman that Carol fought on the bus, what happened
07:17to the old woman Skrull? Either way you look at it, there is a Skrull still MIA.
07:232. Nagini, Fantastic Beasts, The Secrets of Dumbledore
07:27Outside of the likes of the Dumbledore's Newt Scamander's name on the modus map and
07:32the canon-breaking McGonagall name drop that made no sense, there aren't too many characters
07:36that appear in both the Fantastic Beasts and Harry Potter franchises.
07:40One such character is Nagini, and because of this, audiences already know what her ultimate
07:45fate would be. Several decades down the line, the Maledictus would have permanently transformed
07:50into a snake, be one of Voldemort's most trusted allies and a horcrux no less, and
07:56would be sliced in half by Neville Longbottom. Even with this knowledge, there were some
08:00twists and turns during Fantastic Beasts, The Crimes of Grindelwald.
08:04Firstly, the fact that Nagini appeared as a human woman was mind-blowing, but by the
08:08end of the movie she actually aligned herself with Newt and the other heroes. With a compelling
08:13story between here and where she would ultimately end up, she was completely left out of Fantastic
08:19Beasts, The Secrets of Dumbledore. No explanation for her absence, she just simply disappeared
08:24from the narrative altogether. She may return further down the line if the movie franchise
08:29ever survives that long, but even if she does, there will have to be a big explanation as
08:34to where she was in the prequel.
08:361. Rocky Balboa – Creed III Creed III was something completely different
08:41in the franchise in a number of ways. It was the directing debut of Michael B. Jordan,
08:47who brought with him an anime-inspired fighting style, but it was also the first in the franchise
08:51not to feature Rocky Balboa. Throughout all of the Rocky movies and the first two entries
08:57in the Creed franchise, Rocky was a mainstay, and yet for Creed III, he didn't appear.
09:02It was a decision made by Stallone himself due to creative differences, but what about
09:07in terms of the narrative?
09:08There are a couple of potential reasons for the Italian Stallion's absence. Firstly,
09:13by the time of the prequel's events, Adonis is retired and living out in LA, as far away
09:18from Philly as you could possibly get in the USA. There really wouldn't be any need for
09:22Rocky to be out there. There is also a darker possibility pertaining to Rocky's poor health
09:28in the first Creed movie.
09:29Whatever the reason, however, it seems a strange decision to give audiences absolutely no closure
09:35on the subject whatsoever. Donnie couldn't have just given him a call, or just mentioned
09:39in passing to Bianca how he was doing.
09:42And there we have it folks, our list of movie characters that just disappeared. But please
09:46do let us know down in the comments section which movie or TV characters you have no idea
09:50what happened to them.
