00:09world number seven fought hard before losing 17-21, 21-17, 11-21 in 65 minutes
00:17to Kim Astrup and Anders Skarup Rasmussen of Denmark in the men's doubles
00:23final in Hangzhou China on Sunday. The Malaysian pair secured their biggest
00:29prize money to date taking home 100,000 US dollars or approximately 443,000
00:35ringgit. It has been a remarkable year for Sifei and Izzuddin since reuniting
00:39earlier in the year and transitioning to an independent setup after leaving the
00:43Badminton Association of Malaysia BAM in August. Their achievements include
00:48victories at the China, Japan and Arctic Opens, a runners-up finish at the Asian
00:54Championships and now the season-ending Tour finals. Their consistent
00:59performances have positioned them to surpass Aaron Shear and Soh Wui-yik as
01:02Malaysia's new number one men's doubles pair, ending Aaron Wui-yik's six-year
01:06reign at the top. Reflecting on the season, Izzuddin told the Badminton World
01:10Federation, BWF, that he was proud of their achievements, rating their
01:16performance this year as a 10 out of 10. He emphasized the need for greater
01:21consistency, patience and versatility to become all-rounded players. On their
01:26performance in the finals, Sifei acknowledged their struggles against the
01:30Danish pair, citing strategic missteps and the Danes' superior patience and
01:34rotation. However, he expressed gratitude to their team and supporters, noting that
01:40reaching the final itself had exceeded their expectations. The pair will next
01:45compete at the Malaysian Open from January 7th to 12th at the Axiata Arena
01:49in Bukit Jalil.
