00:00I'm not gonna scare you. I'm off duty."
00:03Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today, we're counting down our picks for Disney characters who share
00:08a voice actor. For this list, we'll only be including characters from the Disney Renaissance
00:12period and onward. So if you're looking for Eleanor Audley, who voiced both Sleeping Beauty's
00:17Maleficent and Cinderella's Lady Tremaine, you'll have to check out the top 10 classic
00:21Disney characters you didn't know shared a voice.
00:23Hold your tongue. Oh, how quaint, even the rabble.
00:33Number 20. Bloat, Auguste Gusteau, Hookhand Thug, etc., voiced by Brad Garrett.
00:39Hey. Shower's broken.
00:46Possessing a deep, booming voice, Brad Garrett sounds just like a cartoon character.
00:51So it's only natural that he'd score a few gigs with Disney,
00:57starting out in a couple of direct-to-video productions,
00:59voicing Utamata Makin in Pocahontas 2 and Tank in An Extremely Goofy Movie.
01:04The only thing you three could win is a loser contest, baby.
01:09Garrett hit the big time when he landed the role of Bloat the Pufferfish in Finding Nemo.
01:14Nemo, newcomer of orange and white, you have been called forth to the summit of Mount
01:20Wanahakalugi. He would later voice renowned chef Auguste Gusteau in Ratatouille
01:25and the Hookhand Thug in Tangled. Focus on what you've left behind.
01:29You will never be able to see what lies ahead. Garrett's gentle giant persona shines through
01:34each of these roles. Although his characters are typically gigantic and intimidating,
01:38they're also known for having big hearts and even bigger dreams.
01:42Go. Live your dream. I will.
01:45Your dream stinks. I was talking to her.
01:48Number 19. Flo and Mama Odie, voiced by Jennifer Lewis.
01:52Unofficially deemed the mother of Black Hollywood due to her many matriarchal roles,
01:57Jennifer Lewis breathes vigor and warmth into every character she plays.
02:01You know, I always knew not being popular was gonna pay off for you.
02:06In the Cars franchise, she can be heard as Flo, the owner of Flo's V8 Cafe.
02:10How about something to drink? Stop it. Flo's V8 Cafe.
02:14Finest fuel on Route 66.
02:16She is also the eccentric Mama Odie in The Princess and the Frog,
02:20and given her career debut on Broadway,
02:23it's unsurprising to hear how good she is in Dig a Little Deeper.
02:26Make yourself a brand new start. You gotta dig a little deeper.
02:31Don't have to find a soul. You gotta dig a little deeper.
02:36Tell the people Mama told you so.
02:38While the two characters could not be more different, listening to Flo now makes her
02:43sound just a little like she's about to let out a big old cackle.
02:46Yee-hee-hee! That's got some zing to it! That's just what it needed.
02:52Number 18. Carlotta, Molly, Mary, Gerda, etc., voiced by Edie McClurg.
02:58They all adore him. They think he's a righteous dude.
03:01This character actress has gotten in front of the camera on multiple occasions,
03:05but even in an animated production, McClurg is a standout.
03:09With a mousy, nurturing voice,
03:11she was the ideal candidate to play Carlotta the maid in The Little Mermaid.
03:15I think I'd better go see what Louie is up to.
03:18Over the years, McClurg has popped up in numerous other Disney movies,
03:21playing Molly the pig in Home on the Range,
03:25This just isn't fair.
03:27Mary in Wreck-It Ralph,
03:28Where's Ralph? He should be wrecking the building.
03:31and Gerda in Frozen.
03:34You had us worried sick.
03:36She's also lent her voice to a couple of Pixar movies,
03:38voicing Dr. Flora in A Bug's Life and Minnie in Cars.
03:42There's quite a gap, Mr. Soil. Shouldn't we tell the queen?
03:45While her roles are usually minor, McClurg never fails to leave an impression,
03:49which is why Disney keeps hiring her.
03:52Oh, for the love of Christ, can we please ask someone for direction?
03:56Number 17.
03:58Rex, Gilbert Huff, and Principal Mazur, voiced by Wallace Shawn.
04:02I suppose you think you're brave, don't you?
04:05Only compared to some.
04:08This seasoned actor also happens to be quite the writer,
04:11as he's responsible for penning a number of plays, films, and even a couple of books.
04:16You might recognize his face from The Princess Bride and Clueless,
04:20but his voice will likely be most familiar to you from the Toy Story movies,
04:24where he voices Rex.
04:25He tortures toys just for fun!
04:28Rather different from the timid dinosaur,
04:30you'll also find Principal Mazur from A Goofy Movie in his catalog.
04:35Thank you, Stacey. And good morning, boys and girls.
04:39Wallace Shawn got to play Authority once more when he was cast as Bob Parr's boss,
04:44Mr. Huff, in The Incredibles, a performance equally worthy of praise.
04:48With its nasally, quirky quality, Shawn's voice is distinct,
04:52but we bet you didn't catch it across the three Disney franchises.
04:55I don't want to know about their coverage, Bob! Don't tell me about their coverage!
04:58Tell me how you're keeping Insuricare in the black!
05:00Tell me how that's possible with you writing checks to every Harry Hardlock
05:04and Sally Sob Story that gives you a phone call!
05:06Number 16.
05:08Wesley and Randall Boggs, voiced by Steve Buscemi.
05:11What are you, nuts? We have pancakes for breakfast.
05:13Just when we think this national treasure can't get any more lovable,
05:17we're reminded of his voice work.
05:18As a character actor who constantly breaks molds and ups the standard in any part he plays,
05:23Buscemi is one voice we never get tired of hearing.
05:26All right, come on, move it, Bessie, or I'll tan your hides right here.
05:30Hey, hey, hey, hey, watch the suit, watch the suit!
05:32In Home on the Range, you can spot him as the shady black market businessman Wesley.
05:36He's not any less slimy as Randall Boggs in Monsters, Inc. and Monsters University,
05:41although audiences may have an easier time recognizing him behind the mic.
05:45Buscemi's flair for portraying villains while maintaining that layer of comedy behind the mask
05:50make his performances ones we always look forward to.
05:52If I don't see a new door in my station in five seconds,
05:55I will personally put you through the shredder!
05:58Number 15. Chief Bogo, Fluke, and Shere Khan, voiced by Idris Elba.
06:04Idris Elba is another one of those celebrities with an uber-recognizable voice. It's tough,
06:09deep, and menacing, which makes it entirely perfect for roles like the fearsome Shere
06:14Khan of The Jungle Book.
06:15But ask yourselves, how many lives is a man-cub worth?
06:20While we really enjoyed him in the live-action adaptation,
06:23we'll admit that we enjoy a little levity in his performances.
06:26When it comes to Zootopia's Chief Bogo,
06:29the hints of humor and playfulness written in are brilliantly executed by Elba.
06:33Inciting a scurry, reckless endangerment of rodents, but,
06:38to be fair, you did stop a master criminal from stealing two dozen moldy onions.
06:42To our delight, he got to push that even further with one half of the sea lion
06:46duo in Finding Dory. As Fluke, he gives us Silly by the Boatloads,
06:51something we're not really used to from him.
06:53You interrupted my favorite dream!
06:55Is that the one about you laying on this rock?
06:57Yeah.
06:57Oh, that is a good one.
06:59If his work for Disney has proved one thing, it's that you just can't typecast this man.
07:04Number 14.
07:06Rosie, Sally Carrera, Dolly, Bonnie Hopps, etc., voiced by Bonnie Hunt.
07:12Known for hits like Beethoven, Jumanji, and Cheaper by the Dozen,
07:15Bonnie Hunt is a versatile actress who's also made her mark behind the camera with producing,
07:20directing, and writing credits.
07:22Behind the mic, however, Hunt has lent her voice to a plethora of Disney and Pixar characters,
07:27most notable of which is likely Sally from Cars.
07:30Oh, I am so not taking you to dinner.
07:34That's okay, Stickers. You can take Bessie.
07:38Sharp Ears may also recognize her in Zootopia as a character who shares her first name,
07:42Bonnie Hopps, Judy's mom.
07:44Oh my sweet heaven! Judy, are you a meter maid?
07:48Oh, this, no, oh, no, no, this is just a temporary thing.
07:51It's the safest job on the force.
07:52Oh, she's not a real cop.
07:54In Monsters, Inc., she can be heard as Ms. Flint, as Dolly in Toy Story 3 and 4,
07:59and as Rosie in A Bug's Life.
08:01Don't you understand? We are up.
08:04Top your top in the pump, baby.
08:07Hey, they don't understand me.
08:08Number 13. Max Goof, Kovu, and Thackery Banks, voiced by Jason Marsden.
08:14Jason Marsden has been the voice of Goofy's son, Max Goof, since 1995.
08:19PJ?
08:19You should have been here an hour ago.
08:21What? What are you? Hold on.
08:23Oh, no.
08:25Look, maybe we should just call the whole thing off.
08:27No way, man. It's now or never.
08:31Given that he's such a prolific name in the voice acting world,
08:34we can pinpoint him as at least two other modern Disney characters.
08:38For Halloween fans who watch Hocus Pocus every year,
08:40you might be interested to learn that Marsden is also responsible for bringing
08:44to life Thackery Banks, everyone's favorite black cat.
08:47It's hallowed ground. Witches can't set foot here.
08:51He talks.
08:52The very same voice makes a reappearance as Kovu,
08:55Zira's son, and Kiara's love interest in the 1998 Lion King sequel.
09:00What kind of hunter are you anyway, princess?
09:03You almost got yourself killed out there.
09:05What?
09:06You wouldn't last three days on your own.
09:09With all the depth, personality, and warmth he brings to his roles,
09:12it's a pleasure to watch Marsden in anything he features.
09:16Number 12. Princess Rapunzel and Nita.
09:19Voiced by Mandy Moore.
09:21Before she got to be strong, determined, and brave as Princess Rapunzel,
09:25Mandy Moore got to be strong, determined, and brave as Nita in Brother Bear 2.
09:30She was a great pick for Nita, Kenai's childhood friend,
09:33bringing a softness and likability to the independent, tenacious character.
09:37Wait! You're just gonna walk away? You're not gonna help me take care of this?
09:41Nope.
09:42You know, neither of us can get on with our lives until we burn this amulet.
09:45Of course, her other modern Disney role is pretty well known by this point.
09:49Rapunzel is a character who's bright, optimistic, and so full of wonder.
09:53Qualities Moore manages to infuse her with through cadence alone.
09:57It's time.
09:59I know, I know.
10:00Come on, don't let her see you.
10:02Despite the somewhat different pitches and speech patterns of the characters,
10:06Moore doesn't compromise on warmth, infectious energy, or relatability for either.
10:11What you need here, excuse me, is a woman's point of view.
10:17Number 11. Anna and Priscilla Tripletoe, voiced by Kristen Bell.
10:21Kristen Bell naturally has one of those super clear voices,
10:24which makes her perfect for voice work. Just ask Gossip Girl.
10:28XOXO, Gossip Girl.
10:31Luckily, she moved past narration and into character portrayal when it comes to her Disney projects.
10:36Bell's charming and spirited performance in Frozen allows Anna to feel relatable and real,
10:41ultimately helping to create a character that served as a
10:43refreshing twist to the traditional Disney princess archetype.
10:46Princess Anna?
10:48Huh?
10:49Princess Anna?
10:50Yeah?
10:51Oh, sorry to wake you, ma'am.
10:52No, no, no, no, you didn't. I've been up for hours.
10:56While her role as the sloth Priscilla in Zootopia is significantly smaller,
11:00it's still a lot of fun to hear her embody a slow-talking character
11:04so distinct from Anna's upbeat energy.
11:06Priscilla.
11:08Oh, no!
11:09No!
11:10Yes?
11:12Flash?
11:13Number 10. Princess Ariel and Barbie, voiced by Jodie Benson.
11:18With her movie kicking off the Disney renaissance,
11:20Ariel is one of the most beloved princesses out there.
11:23Oh my gosh, have you ever seen anything so wonderful in your entire life?
11:29Jodie Benson brings Ariel to life with her bright, expressive voice,
11:32giving the character youthful innocence and infinite curiosity,
11:35as well as a unique vulnerability and strength.
11:38These are all characteristics we see on display in Toy Story's Barbie.
11:42Well, Molly and I have been growing apart for years.
11:47It's just, I can't believe she would throw me away!
11:52In the third movie, we see her come to terms with being given up by her owner,
11:56dupe and ultimately blackmail Ken,
11:58and finally help save her friends with an unbelievable display of wit and resolve.
12:02Benson is there for every emotion these characters go through,
12:05time and time again revealing that they're not just a pretty face.
12:09Oh, a Nehru jacket.
12:11Barbie, not the Nehru one.
12:13This is from what, 1967?
12:16The Groovy Formal Collection, yes!
12:17What a shame.
12:18Oh no, no, no, no, no!
12:21Number 9. Judge Claude Frollo, Monsieur Dark, etc., voiced by Tony Jay.
12:27Women can be so silly. They think because you are an artist,
12:30you must also be a great lover.
12:31Even if you don't recognize Tony Jay's face,
12:34you definitely recognize his baritone voice.
12:37This British actor had a knack for sounding diabolical without going too over the top.
12:41It isn't surprising that he played multiple Disney villains throughout his illustrious career.
12:46You seem surprised to see me, man-cub.
12:50I can't imagine why.
12:53I wasn't going to let you get away with what you did to me.
12:57Jay appeared as a secondary bad guy in Beauty and the Beast,
13:00voicing the dastardly Monsieur Dark.
13:02So you want me to throw her father into the asylum unless she agrees to marry you?
13:07He was upgraded to Big Bad in The Hunchback of Notre Dame,
13:11bringing a Shakespearean quality to Judge Claude Frollo.
13:14I should have known you'd risk your life to save that gypsy witch.
13:18He was also the obvious choice to replace the late George Sanders as
13:21Shere Khan in both The Jungle Book 2 and Talespin.
13:24Who's the reward for his capture and the return of my project? And don't disappoint me.
13:32Jay also left his mark on several other Disney afternoon shows,
13:36most notably voicing Wraith in Mighty Ducks, the animated series.
13:40This is a mistake, Lord Dragonus.
13:42Number 8.
13:43James P. Sully-Sullivan, Pacha, Big Daddy LaBoeuf, etc., voiced by John Goodman.
13:49Of all the performers on this list,
13:51John Goodman is probably the most well-known among mainstream audiences.
13:55This actor has had a highly successful career in live-action projects,
13:59but is no slouch when it comes to animated productions.
14:02Although Goodman's played some loud and even threatening characters,
14:05he tends to show off his gentler side in Disney movies.
14:08All right now, princess, you're getting that dress, but that's it.
14:12No more Mr. Pushover.
14:14Yeah, who wants a puppy?
14:16He brought his nice-guy charm to the role of Pacha in The Emperor's New Groove.
14:20Don't worry, your highness, I gotcha.
14:22You're safe now.
14:23The same can be said about his work as Baloo in The Jungle Book 2.
14:26In case you haven't noticed, kid, I'm no wild animal.
14:30Except at parties.
14:31And Big Daddy LaBoeuf in The Princess and the Frog.
14:34Of course, his most iconic role has got to be James P. Sullivan.
14:38I'm not gonna scare you.
14:40I'm off-duty.
14:41Hitting just the right note, Goodman gave a towering monster a genuine soul.
14:46I act scary, Mike.
14:49But most of the time, I'm terrified.
14:53Number 7.
14:54Princess Jasmine and Mulan.
14:56Voiced, singing, by Lea Salonga.
14:59A dazzling place I never knew.
15:02Although Linda Larkin recorded Princess Jasmine's dialogue,
15:06the filmmakers felt that another performer should provide the character's singing voice.
15:09So they turned to Tony Award-winning stage actress Lea Salonga.
15:13With the voice of an angel, this Filipina singer helped make
15:16A Whole New World one of Disney's most timeless songs.
15:20A whole new world, a dazzling place I never knew.
15:27Salonga was originally set to voice Mulan, and although replaced by Ming-Na Wen,
15:32she did take on Mulan's singing voice.
15:34This proved to be excellent casting,
15:37as Reflection wouldn't have been the same without Salonga's emotive singing chops.
15:41Look at me, I will never pass for a perfect bride.
15:48Although singing rather than speaking, Salonga's roles as Jasmine and Mulan
15:52gives her the rare distinction of portraying two official Disney princesses.
15:56Number 6.
15:58Cogsworth, Governor Ratcliffe, etc.
16:00Voiced by David Ogden Stiers.
16:02Furniture.
16:04That is a Coco Chanel sofa, unless I'm mistaken.
16:08This actor was so versatile that he could seamlessly juggle multiple roles in one movie.
16:12Well, there's the usual things, flowers, chocolates, promises you don't intend to keep.
16:18Disney fans might know that Stiers voiced Cogsworth in Beauty and the Beast,
16:22but did you know that he also provided the film's opening narration?
16:25Once upon a time, in a faraway land, a young prince lived in a shining castle.
16:31In Pocahontas, he took on another dual performance as the villainous Governor Ratcliffe
16:36and his manservant Wiggins.
16:38Wiggins, why do you think those insolent heathens attacked us?
16:41Because we invaded their land and cut down their trees and dug up their earth.
16:44Stiers played various other characters, such as the archdeacon in The Hunchback of Notre Dame,
16:48You can lie to yourself and your minions, you can claim that you haven't a qualm,
16:55but you never can run from or hide what you've done from the eyes.
17:01Mr. Harcourt in Atlantis, The Lost Empire, and Dr. Jumbo Jukiba in Lilo and Stitch.
17:06Create something fast, but that would be irresponsible and unethical.
17:12I would never, ever make more than one.
17:17While many of the actors on this list are instantly recognizable,
17:21Stiers was like a chameleon that could blend into any role without being unnoticed.
17:26You want to go on an expedition? Here, take a trolley to the Potomac and jump in.
17:31Maybe the cold water will clear your head.
17:34Number 5. King Candy, Duke of Weselton, Duke Weaselton,
17:38Alistair Cray, Heihei, K2SO, etc. Voiced by Alan Tudyk.
17:47Alan Tudyk couldn't have been more deliciously evil as King Candy in Wreck-It Ralph.
17:51Is that a threat I smell? You're beyond the halitosis you so obviously suffer from.
17:58Since then, this gifted actor has frequently appeared in Disney's animated features.
18:02Sorcery. I knew there was something dubious going on here.
18:07As the Duke of Weselton in Frozen, Tudyk played another sneaky bad guy,
18:11although his character was really more a red herring to distract us from the actual big baddie.
18:15He'd take on a similar role as Alistair Cray in Big Hero 6.
18:19Extraordinary. I want your microbots at Craytech.
18:24Tudyk went on from voicing the Duke of Weselton to voicing Duke Weaselton in Zootopia,
18:29and that same year he clucked his heart out as Heihei in Moana.
18:32It's Weaselton, Duke Weaselton, and I ain't talking.
18:36Seeing how Star Wars is now a major part of the Disney family,
18:39it's also worth mentioning that it was Tudyk that brought K2SO to life in Rogue One.
18:44Congratulations, you are being rescued.
18:47Number 4. Ham, Mack the Truck, Abominable Snowman, The Underminer, etc.
18:52Voiced by John Ratzenberger.
18:54How about you, miss? What are your perspiration patterns?
18:58John Ratzenberger is best known as the know-it-all postman Cliff Clavin,
19:01but to Pixar fans, he'll always be Ham the Piggy Bank.
19:04Turn him around! Turn him around!
19:06He's hurting my back!
19:07Described as the studio's good luck charm,
19:09Ratzenberger has played a part in every Pixar movie since.
19:12What? Did I forget to wipe my mud flaps?
19:15Sometimes cast in a supporting role like Mack the Truck from Cars,
19:18other times he'll make an extended cameo, like in Monsters, Inc.,
19:22where he played the Abominable Snowman.
19:24Welcome to the Himalayas!
19:26A few of his characters aren't even on screen for more than a minute,
19:29but they're always memorable.
19:31Like the Underminer from The Incredibles, for example.
19:34Behold the Underminer!
19:37I am always beneath you, but nothing is beneath me!
19:43I hereby declare war on peace and happiness!
19:49Soon all will tremble before me!
19:54Whether it's a big role or a small one,
19:56you can always count on hearing Ratzenberger's voice in a Pixar production.
20:01Number three.
20:02Mufasa and Darth Vader, voiced by James Earl Jones.
20:07You seem unsettled.
20:09With Star Wars having been bought over by Disney,
20:12James Earl Jones had two major VA credits for the company,
20:15all the way from the franchise's debut in 1977
20:18to the miniseries Obi-Wan Kenobi released in 2022.
20:22Jones could be heard behind the mask.
20:24Your strength has returned, but the weakness still remains.
20:34Vader's voice has an imposing bass resonance with a slow, deliberate cadence,
20:38conveying authority and that signature brand of menace.
20:41As Mufasa, the actor didn't lose an ounce of authority,
20:44but gained a whole fleet full of warmth.
20:47I think those hyenas were even scareder.
20:51Because nobody messes with your dad.
20:54Come here, you.
20:55He returned to the role for the live-action adaptation of The Lion King in 2019,
21:00which certainly helped bring some life back into the expressive emotion
21:03lost from the original animation style.
21:05His voice remains a symbol of strength in pop culture,
21:08solidifying him as a legendary presence in both franchises.
21:12It's famous.
21:13One of the most famous voices in the world, when you think about it.
21:16Well, sometimes it doesn't work because I'm a stutterer,
21:19and I'm happy that anything comes out at all with clarity.
21:22Number two.
21:23Abu, Cave of Wonders,
21:25Flit,
21:26Bigfoot,
21:27Pegasus,
21:27Kriki, etc.
21:29Voiced by Frank Welker.
21:30He might not be a household name, but to those in the know,
21:34Frank Welker has cemented his place as a voice acting legend.
21:37With a filmography that stretches for miles,
21:41Welker has voiced pretty much every member of the animal kingdom.
21:44Specializing in gibberish roles,
21:46he created the sounds for Abu from Aladdin,
21:48Flit from Pocahontas,
21:51Bigfoot from a Goofy movie,
21:52Pegasus from Hercules,
21:54Kriki from Mulan,
21:55and his screen credits just go on.
21:57Honestly, we'd be here all day if we listed off every Disney character Welker has played.
22:01So let's just listen to his epic voice as the Cave of Wonders.

22:37Get him off of me!
22:41Is he still there?
22:43Oh yes.
22:44He's still here.
22:46And I think he wants to stick with you.
22:48Jim Cummings has been shaping childhoods for over 30 years,
22:52although most audiences have never seen his face.
22:54But the first thing is,
22:55you have to go,
22:56oh that's Pooh Bear.
22:58Or that's Tigger.
22:59One of the most seasoned voice actors on the planet,
23:02he's played numerous classic Disney characters,
23:04including both Winnie the Pooh and Tigger.
23:07On the big screen, he's voiced Razool from Aladdin,
23:10He's got a sword!
23:12You idiots!
23:13We've all got swords!
23:15Ray from The Princess and the Frog,
23:17and Ed from The Lion King.
23:18I like that very much.
23:20Oh, and he also filled in for Jeremy Irons as Scar during parts of Be Prepared.
23:24Whether a character is cute and cuddly or cruel and conniving,
23:27Cummings can adapt to virtually any role.
23:33He knows how to play heroes and villains,
23:35which is perhaps best exemplified through his work as Darkwing Duck
23:39and his arch-enemy, Negaduck.
23:41Knot is right.
23:42Now go find your own billions,
23:44because I can handle this myself, see?
23:46Which two characters voiced by one person do you think are the most different?
