00:00It's mid-December, meaning one of the best meteor showers of the year is about to have
00:08its big show.
00:09The Geminid Meteor Shower is an annual event which occurs when the Earth passes through
00:12the debris field left behind by asteroid 3200 Phyton, according to NASA.
00:17From now until December 21st, skygazers will be able to glimpse meteor showers every night,
00:22with the space agency saying that at its peak, you can see upwards of 120 meteors every hour.
00:28The Geminid Meteor Shower is named after the Gemini constellation, as that is the area
00:32of the sky you can look towards to watch the shooting stars.
00:35So when is the peak?
00:36Experts say December 14th will have the most meteors per hour, but unfortunately it coincides
00:41with the near full moon, meaning it might be a little harder to see this year.
00:45But NASA has some tips to help out.
00:46First, they suggest laying flat on your back, with your feet facing southeast.
00:50Next, they say to have some patience.
00:52After just 30 minutes in the dark of night, your eyes should adapt, and you will have
00:56a better chance of seeing the Geminid Shower.
