00:00Austin Butler is set to star in Luca Guadagnino's new interpretation of the book American Psycho
00:06by Brett Easton Ellis for Lionsgate.
00:09The novel was first published in 1991 and was then adapted into a 2000 movie featuring
00:15Christian Bale as Bateman, a wealthy narcissistic Manhattan investment banker who lives a double
00:21life as a serial killer.
00:23Now, as reported by Variety, the filmmaker is getting ready to create a new interpretation
00:28of the novel.
00:29Scott Z. Burns will be writing the storyline.
00:33So far, the other details reveal that this project comes from Hollywood studio Lionsgate
00:37and the production will be looked after by Frenzy Films.
00:41The project will be executively produced by Sam Pressman, the son of Edward R. Pressman
00:46who had produced the original movie through his company Pressman Films.
00:50Earlier, the rumours swirled that Jacob Elordi would be playing the role of Patrick Bateman
00:56but the casting did not go successful.
00:58Butler, who earned an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann's
01:042022 biopic, is a highly loved actor in the industry.
01:08He recently received heavy appreciation for starring in Dune Part 2.
01:13American Psycho adaptation will be a unique challenge for Butler given that he'll be
01:18stepping into the role of a character that has already been portrayed this century and
01:22has been a very memorable one as well.
01:25Christian Bale's turn as Bateman in Mary Heron's admired 2000 film is a performance
01:30that still invites discussion almost a quarter of a century later.
01:34Guadagnino has previously said his film isn't a remake.
01:37So, hopefully, this new spin on the material will give Butler ample opportunity to step
01:42out of the shadow of Bale's sensational turn.
