00:00Of course, all the talk has been Bill Belichick going to Chapel Hill.
00:07He is now officially the new head coach at North Carolina.
00:12Let's hear him from earlier today, Scotty, and then I will give you some of the particulars
00:17of his contract, which just a few moments ago is now being washed all over social media.
00:22So here is Belichick being introduced as the new HC of UNC.
00:28I've always wanted to coach in football, coach in college football, and it just never really
00:35worked out.
00:36I had some good years in the NFL, so that was okay, but this is really kind of a dream
00:43come true.
00:44I grew up in college football with my dad as a coach of the Navy for 50 years.
00:48So as a kid, all I knew was college football, and so it's great to come back home to Carolina.
00:55Back in the old environment that I really grew up in, when you're little, you don't
01:04remember everything.
01:05Obviously, I was too young to remember a lot of things from Carolina, but as I grew up,
01:11you hear the same story over and over and over and over again.
01:14And so, one story I always heard was, Billy's first words were, beat Duke.
01:24That is just epic.
01:26You better beat them.
01:29Look, he was great today.
01:30At one point, he was like, you know how much I love doing these press conferences?
01:34Because he was talking too much.
01:36And he said, I got really long answers because you know how much I love doing this.
01:39And I just thought he was great.
01:41He's great on TV.
01:43He's incredibly gifted at talking football.
01:47When he tells football stories, he does it better than anybody.
01:50When he breaks down film, he does it better than anybody.
01:52He does it better than Nick Saban, who also, I think, is pals with him and jealous of him
01:58in the sense of, he's on another level.
02:01He is on another level.
02:03I think Saban's the greatest college coach we've ever seen in our generation.
02:07But you have to understand, for my money, let's not forget some of the greats.
02:13Rockne and Bear Bryant, and it goes on and on.
02:17I saw, with my very own eyes, several of them, like Joe Paterno.
02:22And you and I saw Lou Holtz.
02:24There's been great coaches.
02:25I thought Dan Devine did a great job at Notre Dame.
02:28There's been a million great coaches.
02:29This guy's, for my money, the best pro coach we've ever seen.
02:34And I don't care what anybody says.
02:36He's very articulate, fun, funny.
02:40I think he can be great in front of cameras and in front of the media when he wants to be.
02:45He can be a complete asshat in front of them.
02:47He can be a mean guy in front of them.
02:49But I will tell you one thing with certainty.
02:51He is going to teach these kids how to play football like they have never been taught before in their life.
02:56If you play for this guy, now you have to understand, I was around Bob Knight for five years.
03:01And I've known him until his death.
03:03And I've got to tell you, I've never seen anyone teach more than him.
03:07No one even came close to teaching basketball the way that guy taught basketball.
03:11And he was also the smartest man I was ever around in my life.
03:14I used to think Howard Cosell was the smartest guy I've ever seen in the room.
03:18I put Bob Knight in there.
03:19I put Bill Belichick in there.
03:21I think Bill Belichick will do great things for kids at North Carolina, albeit winning.
03:28I don't know.
03:29Is he going to win?
03:30I don't know.
03:31Is he going to win titles?
03:32I don't know.
03:33I doubt it.
03:34But is he going to teach them something about football they've never learned and something about life?
03:38That is with certainty.
03:40I think it's a great move by the school and by their athletic department.
03:45And I think that it will be a benefit to all involved in spades.
