00:00My department's policy for the provision of street lighting in rural areas is detailed in
00:03Policy and Procedures Guide E072. The policy has been in place since 1993 and uses two main
00:10criteria when considering the provision of street lighting in rural areas. These relate to the
00:15density of the development along a road, or where lighting is likely to help at sites that have a
00:20significant history of night-time collisions. There need to be at least 10 dwellings located
00:24within a continuous 200m road length to qualify for the installation of street lighting.
00:30In applying this rule, dwellings must front the road which is considered for lighting.
00:34At present, the Saxony to Brumcanna road near Kersh Quinn
00:37does not meet the criteria under this department policy.
