Cricketers descend on ICC awards

00:10It's the fifth installment of the ICC Awards, which has been billed as the sport's Oscars

00:15And it's the first time for it to be held in Dubai.
00:18Plans to stage it in Lahore were dropped at the last minute.
00:21Joining the list of nominees were some other cricketing stars, both young and old.
00:25Inside the ceremony, which was at the Western Hotel, ex-England captain Nasser Hussain hosted

00:31Scooping the Emerging Player of the Year award was Sri Lanka's new wide-eyed discovery Ajanta
00:35Mendes.
00:36The 23-year-old spinning sensation burst on the scene after taking 26 wickets in just
00:41three tests.
00:42South Africa's Dale Steen beat teammate Jack Kallis, Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardena and
00:47West Indian Shivnarine Chandapal to take the Test Player of the Year award.
00:52India's flamboyant batsman Yuvraj Singh clinched the 2020 International Performance of the
01:10Year after smashing six sixes in a single over.
01:23But all the attention then focused on the Cricketer of the Year award.
01:27That went to Chandapal, who has been the mainstay batsman of his side for over a decade.
01:31Chandapal was speaking from the UK and a few category winners weren't at the ceremony.
01:36But it was nevertheless an event the ICC were keen to show they could host well from
01:41their new home in Dubai.
