00:00Hello and welcome to your transport update for Greater Manchester ahead of the week beginning
00:04the 9th of December. I'm Theo Hewson-Betts and Manchester's transport links are always
00:09busy anyway, but the festive season can make things significantly more stressful. So let's
00:13get right into it, shall we?
00:15Firstly, the plans for new B Network train lines are being developed following the success
00:19of the city's bus and Metro link services. The B Network has been a central part of the
00:23reinvigoration of Manchester over the last couple of years. The ease with which people
00:27can use public transport has meant that the city has been able to welcome many more shoppers
00:30and day-trippers, as well as making it more accessible and attractive for tourists.
00:35Train services are the next transport links set to be rolled out with eight lines expected
00:38to be in B Network control by 2028. These are going to be Wigan to Manchester Victoria,
00:44Staly Bridge to Southport, Glossop to Piccadilly via Hadfield, Rosehill to Piccadilly, Buxton
00:50to Piccadilly, Alderley Edge to Piccadilly. The Rochdale stopping services and the Manchester
00:56Airport stopping services as well. Work is currently ongoing, with the first line possibly
01:01able to be up and running by 2026. There's an expectation that the Glossop and Staly
01:05Bridge lines will be the first services to be up and running. And also the B Network
01:09festive schedule is out, so we'll quickly talk you through that.
01:12On Christmas Eve, tram services start at the normal 6am but end before 9pm, while buses
01:17will stop between 6 and 9pm. On Christmas Day, there'll be no trams at all and the
01:21only bus running will be the Stagecoach service 43. On Boxing Day, tram services will operate
01:26between 7am and 1am, with services running every 15 minutes until midnight, and then
01:30every half hour after midnight. Special bus services will be running, but it's worth
01:34checking the website to get specific times. On New Year's Eve, an amended tram schedule
01:38will see services run every 12 minutes between 6am and 1am, but only on limited services,
01:43while buses will largely be unchanged, with the exception of a few that will stop running
01:46at 6pm. We'll have a bigger piece on the full schedule
01:49on our website, so if you need more information, please head over to Manchester World.
01:53That's all for now, and we'll see you next week.
