00:06It was made famous after the battle of Eamon in 1795, where it decided to form the Orange
00:13Order and they come into the cottage, the retop room, to form some sort of an organisation.
00:22What importance is this cottage to the organisation?
00:27It's very important because that's where the Orange Order formed, so we like to keep
00:31it up and running and that's why we're getting it thatched to keep it in good shape.
00:37Now this is a thatched cottage, was it always a thatched cottage?
00:40It was always a thatched cottage and then my grandfather in the early years put tin
00:45over it.
00:46And then in 1995 there was a big centenary parade, so we decided that more visitors was
00:53coming, more popular to the cottage, so we decided to bring it back to its original state
00:58and remove the tin and re-thatch it, popular, so we decided to get it restored back to its
01:07original condition.
01:08And ever since then it's been getting more and more popular with more visitors coming.
01:13And is a thatch particularly popular with visitors?
01:16It is, yes, it's a good focal point for the visitors.
01:21And it takes a lot of work to keep it in good nick?
01:27It does take a lot of work.
01:29What do you have to do or do you have to get someone in to do this for you?
01:33You get specialist guys in to thatch for us and we're thankful to the HED, the Historical
01:40Environment Division, who steer us in the right direction and they've been a great help
01:45to us through granting it and giving us good advice.
01:51So what sort of, do you have to get this done every 10 years or something?
01:56Every, it was done, it got a cover coat in 2014, so then this is 24, so that's 10 years
02:03ago, so this is a full re-thatch this time, so I'm hoping that'll last about 12 to 15
02:09years.
02:10Is it expensive?
02:11It's very expensive, it is indeed.
02:13I'll not tell you what it is, but it's expensive.
