00:00An analyst has downplayed the impact of the alleged mining scandal in Sabah, which has
00:06sparked disputes between UMNO and local parties on the state's political dynamics.
00:11Lao Tzu Wei of International Islamic University Malaysia said that while national politics
00:16often revolves around corruption scandals, Sabah's focus is more on autonomy, development
00:21and public welfare.
00:23Speaking to FMT, he said Sabah and Sarawak prioritize who governs the state, whether
00:28a local-based or national party, and its implications for autonomy and growth.
00:33Lao suggested that while the scandal might gain traction in the peninsula, it holds limited
00:37significance in Sabah.
00:39Meanwhile, Rumzi Atiung of University Malaysia Sabah said,
00:43Hajiji's position remains secure unless a conviction arises contingent on his effective
00:48management of the situation.
00:50Sources previously told FMT that the leaked videos implicating Sabah assemblymen were
00:54part of an UMNO-led effort against Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, which UMNO has denied, while
00:59urging Hajiji Noor to resign as chief minister.
01:02The demand drew backlash from Hajiji's Gagasan Rakyat Sabah and Jeffrey Kitingan's party
01:07Solidarity Tanah Airku, while Sabah PKR supported allowing the government to function pending
01:12investigations.
