00:00The most important on the Smurf turf in the blue of Boise, Idaho.
00:08Number 10 Boise State trying to win its second consecutive Mountain West Championship in
00:13a rematch against number 20 UNLV.
00:17And that's exactly what Spencer Danielson, Ashton Gentee, and the Broncos delivered.
00:22A Mountain West crown and a spot now in a college football playoff, 21 to 7, the final
00:29Boise State's defense sensational and Ashton Gentee running for more than 200 yards last
00:34night against the UNLV team where he had his season low just over a month ago in Sin City.
00:42Boise State, Joe, courtesy of the victory in the Mountain West Championship, has earned
00:46a spot in the CFP.
00:48Yeah, running the football and playing sound defense, that's how they have done it this
00:51year.
00:52They were up 14-0.
00:53They get the big touchdown run with about 40 seconds left in the second quarter by Gentee,
00:5875 yards, blows through his total in terms of longest prop, right, 54 and a half for
01:02the longest run, 21 points in that matchup.
01:06I think he was in the room when you mentioned that earlier.
01:09And then they forced turnovers.
01:10Now, I will give a little credit to UNLV.
01:12They shut down Boise State from a defensive perspective in the second half, right?
01:17It was completely conservative, one-dimensional, but again, they couldn't do anything offensively.
01:22That defensive group for Boise State, dominant.
01:25When you win the turnover battle and you win running the football, especially at home
01:29in a cold-weather environment, most likely you're going to win in cover, and that's what
01:33they did last night, Kev.
01:34So a few things.
01:35The longest rush prop, 54 and a half.
01:37I didn't realize you were on it, though.
01:38That's insane.
01:39I didn't.
01:40I just saw you.
01:41I thought you just tweeted it.
01:42Yeah.
01:43Okay, yeah, I did end up taking it.
01:44Okay, that makes sense, actually.
01:46I did take the chance on it.
01:47By the way, he had one run of over 20 yards in that game, and it happened to go for 75.
01:53I'll take my chances on that any time.
01:55It is what it is.
01:56I can't wait to see what that number looks like the next time we see Gente.
02:01Here's the thing.
02:02The next time we see Gente is a long time away.
02:06Because Boise, who in my opinion is a fringe top 10 team, and in the committee's ideal
02:11world was going to be happy to get the 12th spot and like it, is now going to be getting
02:17a bye 100%.
02:20There is no way the Big 12 winner jumps Boise State, in my opinion, winning by 14 against
02:25UNLV.
02:27And then that doesn't matter, right?
02:29That's because they won.
02:30If the ACC goes to SMU, it doesn't matter.
02:32So Boise being the third or fourth seed, it does again signify, okay, listen, we were
02:41right to expand.
02:43We don't have this right.
02:44The idea that Boise will be in front of Texas or Georgia is nonsensical.
02:51And I don't know anybody who would disagree with that.
02:54I still think they need to tweak this format.
02:56As you mentioned, if we are going to rank the top 12 teams, why not just rate the top
03:01four and give them the bye?
03:03Not necessarily the conference championship tie to it, but they're trying to keep these
03:07games as meaningful as possible.
03:08But here's the thing.
03:10And this is, I'll be honest, this is the Donnie point.
03:12But I think he's right.
03:13Do you think Boise would rather the bye or play on the blue turf?
03:15I think they would rather play on the blue turf.
03:17And as a college football fan base, would you rather, Leecey, watch Boise play in some
03:24neutral site game where they're going to get smoked fan base to fan base or bring Alabama
03:30onto the blue turf?
03:31Yeah, I understand that.
03:32I mean, they have stepped up on neutral field sites before.
03:36They knocked off Oklahoma.
03:38So you can never say never in terms of this type of situation.
03:42But what I'm saying is everybody wants a perfect, like it's got to be cookie cutter.
03:47We need the best teams.
03:48The best team should be playing at home.
03:50We need that type of environment.
03:52And it's not.
03:53It's not a finished product.
03:54It's the first year in terms of a 12 team expansion.
03:57We already have people talking about 16.
03:59We haven't even gotten through 12 yet.
04:01So, well, I'm just saying, yeah, it's coming.
04:04Money drives the bus.
04:05That's what it is.
04:06Boise State covering last night is a four and a half point home favorite to win the
04:10Mountain West crown, a 12 and one record for the Broncos this year.
04:14The only defeat by three on the road against the number one team in the country.
04:20It feels as though Boise State is going to earn that opening round by in some weird world.
04:25Could the big 12 title winner surpass them in the seedings?
04:29We shall see.
