00:00A quick debrief and a vape after a high-stakes meeting with the French president.
00:05Socialist party leader Olivier Farr was invited to the Elysée Palace on Friday morning after
00:10saying he was open to discussion with Emmanuel Macron and the right as long as concessions
00:14were made on both sides.
00:16The president has not set any preconditions on any subject.
00:21We reminded him that in order to guarantee change, we wanted a left-wing prime minister
00:28and that we would under no circumstances participate in a government led by a right-wing prime
00:33minister.
00:36The socialists were the only members of the left-wing New Popular Front alliance to be
00:39received on Friday after lawmakers from the left and the far-right voted to oust Prime
00:44Minister Michel Barnier.
00:46It angered France Unbound leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon who said on social media his party
00:50had given no mandate to Olivier Farr to go to the meeting alone or negotiate an agreement
00:55in the name of the New Popular Front.
00:58We see Friday's meeting as a sign that the socialist party could be breaking away from
01:01the alliance to put an end to the standstill and join a more centrist government within
01:06what Macron calls a republican arc.
01:09The prime minister will form a government of public interest, representing every political
01:13force within the spectrum of parties that they can take part in or at least agree not
01:18to bring down.
01:19Macron is also consulting with officials from the right in the hope he can name a prime
01:22minister who can run the country at least for the next few months.
01:26A delicate task.
