00:00It is obviously a lovely time for all of us to spend with friends and family but I guess
00:07what our research shows is that alcohol is really still part of our festive period with
00:13about two thirds of us expecting to drink more over the festive period than we would
00:17at other times in the year. From our point of view it's a great opportunity to remind
00:22people just to keep a bit more of an eye on your drinking over the holiday period and
00:29pay a bit more attention to the Chief Medical Officer's guidelines which as a reminder is
00:3414 units a week whether you're a man or a woman that's about 6 pints of beer or 6 medium
00:41glasses of wine that should be spread equally over the week with a few days in the week
00:46where you're not drinking at all and try not to binge. What strategies can be implemented
00:50to help them sort of manage pressure at this time of the year and make more informed choices
00:55about alcohol consumption? Actually taking that opportunity to talk to your friends
01:00and your family about how you want to treat the festive period and your approach around
01:04alcohol is a really great first step. There are lots of low and no alcohol products out
01:09there now we've got more choice than we've ever had as consumers so you know potentially
01:15trying some of those products young adults in particular are really leading the way in
01:20terms of trying out these new products and maybe could show older adults a thing or two
01:26about some of the lovely mocktails that you can have or some of the really nice beers
01:32so that would certainly be somewhere to start. We've also seen the beginnings of a trend
01:37called zebra striping and that is when people start the evening with a zero alcohol then
01:44move to a normal strength alcohol and then back to a zero alcohol as well and that's
01:49quite a fun way to spend lots more time with your friends and family still have a lovely
01:54evening but overall if you've cut back on your units then that's better for your health.
