00:00Busy Breaking News Day on CBS News 24-7. Welcome back. I'm Reid Cowen. So we continue to follow
00:07that breaking news out of South Korea, where the country's president declared martial law.
00:11And you're seeing people in the streets and elsewhere. This move drawing hundreds of those
00:15protesters to the South Korean parliament building as we speak. They're waving flags.
00:20We are also starting to see military vehicles on what are otherwise very peaceful streets
00:24in South Korea. Lawmakers are fighting back after that declaration of martial law. They
00:30are voting to defy the country's president and immediately lift that martial law declaration.
00:35The president there says he's doing it because he believes there are factions who are conspiring
00:40at North Korea and doing anti-state activities. CBS News reporter Jen Kwon reports from Seoul,
00:46South Korea. Lawmakers in South Korea's parliament has
00:50voted down President Yun Seong-yeol's martial law declaration. Early in a surprise late
00:55night televised address, President Yun declared emergency martial law, vowing to eradicate
01:00quote, pro-North Korean anti-state forces. This is the first time in 44 years that martial
01:06law has been declared in South Korea. It has come to a shock to residents here and sparked
01:11confusion. After the president's announcement, there were chaotic scenes outside the parliament
01:15building here in Seoul. But 190 of the 300 members of parliament were able to get into
01:21the building to block the martial law declaration. Jen Kwon, CBS News.
