00:00Andrew R.T. Davies has been the leader of the Welsh Conservative Party for most of the
00:05last 13 years. He's been a leading figure in Welsh politics but earlier on this month
00:10he stepped down from the role after narrowly winning a confidence vote of his fellow Tory
00:14Senedd members but said his role was untenable. It seems now that Darren Miller will become
00:19the new leader after being the only name in the hat to replace Davies. Darren Miller,
00:24the Senedd member for Clwyd West in North Wales, had been in the role since 2007, making
00:29him one of the longest serving in the whole Senedd and one of the most senior Tory politicians
00:33in Wales. Miller has been in politics for decades and sat as the Mayor of Tywyn and
00:38Kimmel Bay when he was only 24 years old. He ran for the UK Parliament in the recent
00:42general election, finishing second to Labour in the new Clwyd North seat. He can probably
00:47be described as a bit of an old school Tory, he backed Brexit and has been outspoken about
00:52his religious beliefs in the past. He's expected to be named leader just in time for First
00:56Minister's Questions next week.
