00:00Hello, my name is Luke Patrick, I'm a reporter for Blackpool Gazette.
00:04I'm here to talk to the owner of the Beach House Bistro and Bar here on Blackpool Promenade
00:09about how the Christmas 1C celebrations have impacted trade, how they've managed to keep
00:15the Beach House luxury brand since it opened in 2012, and the new renovations they are
00:21planning in January.
00:23Hi, I'm Cheryl Trevanyan, I am one of the family owners at Beach House Blackpool, which
00:29is the restaurant bar on the promenade.
00:32Are you excited about the Christmas 1C celebrations when you heard it was coming to Blackpool
00:37again this year, and what it might mean for your business?
00:41Always excited about new things coming to Blackpool, Blackpool for me, it's got it all.
00:49You have to understand that new opportunities, new investment is all positive, and Christmas
00:59by the sea, it's got bigger and better, it's just great.
01:03How has it impacted the business, have you seen an uptick of people coming into the bar
01:09or anything like that?
01:11I think particularly at the weekend, weekends have been fantastic for us, a lot of people
01:17in Blackpool, it's just so good to see Blackpool busy in November, it's amazing.
01:24To go along the promenade and see families around, for us, we're busy anyway at weekends,
01:33but November is a bit of a slow month, but Christmas by the sea has definitely improved
01:41our business.
01:42And I guess it's that on top of the illuminations and stuff like that as well.
01:47To carry the illuminations through all the way is fabulous, and I think that it's really
01:54important to understand the investment that the town make into these things, it's a collaboration
02:02of independent businesses, of Blackpool Council coming together to continue to keep Blackpool
02:08on the map as the number one seaside destination.
02:14So how important do you think, you've talked about it a little bit there, but how important
02:19do you think Christmas by the sea is to Blackpool businesses, who maybe like this one, might
02:24not get a lot of business in November or December potentially?
02:29Well I think we can look at this two ways, some of us that predominantly work a season
02:35in Blackpool can think, oh no, we've got to work the winter now, but it's good, it can't
02:42be anything other than positive.
02:45Christmas by the sea has definitely improved, it has to have improved all the businesses
02:51along the promenade.
02:52Summers are tough because we can never guess how the weather is, for me this is a boost,
02:57this is a bonus, this is something extra that Blackpool is giving to the local businesses.
