Leeds Mental Health Specialist Miranda Arieh shares her top 5 tips for good mental health this Christmas.

00:00Hi I'm Miranda Arieh and I'm a motivational speaker, mental health
00:04specialist and founder of the Heroes Group Work Programme. These are my top
00:08five tips for good mental health over the festive period. Number one is let go
00:13of comparisons. Comparing ourselves to others and comparing our own lives to
00:17other people's lives is always going to cause us suffering. What we see on social
00:20media is not always a reflection of the truth of people's lives. Number two I
00:25would say it's really important to look at budget. Shockingly 47% of
00:29people who say their mental health declines around the Christmas season say
00:34that the biggest stress for them is actually finances. You do not have to win
00:38the love and approval for others by getting them extravagant things. We could
00:42get amazing small tokenistic things for people or even homemade things. Number
00:47three it's really important to know your limits and set realistic boundaries with
00:52family members who you may reserve specifically only to see once a year for
00:57good reason. Other people's behaviours and actions or even criticisms say a lot
01:03more about them than they do about us so try not to take too many things
01:06personally. If 2024 has been an amazing year for you, you've smashed your goals
01:09make sure to celebrate but if you haven't maybe reached the goals that you
01:13wanted to reach or it's been a really difficult time for you please remember
01:16it's never too late. Please remember to practice love and forgiveness with
01:21yourself. Self-punishment and self-beration will never ever lead to
01:26effective change. Last but not least please just reach out for support if you
01:30need it. There is always someone on the other end of the phone to support you if
01:33you don't have a loved one in your life that you can trust. Something I'm really
01:36looking forward to in 2025 is a citywide rollout across Leeds of my HEROES
01:42group work program. HEROES stands for healing education and recovery of
01:46emotional strength and it's an eight-week 20-hour group work program.
01:49They're all based on my own lived experience of recovery through complex
01:52childhood trauma and we're really looking forward to serving people in the
01:56best way that we can who may be suffering with their mental health.
