Bulky sets are the most obvious. Then again, it is hard to tell which set is rigged to fail after leaving them turned on for a period of at least three to six months. If they last for longer than that, the set is deemed not rigged to fail.
If you can't remove the LED's (regardless, they're all the same size) on a bulky set (remove the coloured cover to verify), that is another sign.
