00:0013 Filipinos were sentenced to prison in Cambodia for fighting the surrogacy ban.
00:07According to the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh,
00:09they were first sentenced to four years in prison,
00:13which was reduced to two years,
00:15with the help of the efforts of the councils that were taken over by the embassy.
00:19The government of the Philippines continues to provide assistance
00:24to our fellow Filipinos in prison,
00:27including legal and consular assistance.
00:29The embassy also promised to continue to provide assistance
00:33to law enforcement agencies and international partners,
00:37including Cambodia,
00:39in the campaign against human trafficking and other transnational crimes.
00:44The fight against the surrogacy ban in Cambodia
00:47is considered a felony,
00:49and according to their law,
00:51the maximum penalty is up to 15 to 20 years in prison.
